"PS. Not to mention that Macs ship with broadcom wireless cards these days, which don't have very good linux support." You're saying that OS X has better hardware support than Linux? :-)

I think he's referring to the artificial security based on swapping SIMs into the same phone, since both can be tracked. In fact, with appropriate metadata[1], this could poison a number of SIMs and phones if they were ever passed b

It is significantly more involved (I don't know if I'd say difficult as this is tough to judge) for a PRC citizen to enter HK than it is for, say, a citizen of the USA.

It's annoying when the specialized versions release before the IDEA plugins are tested and released. Reading about the cool new features and not being able to find them in IDEA sucks. :-)

As long as it's called Tristero, and the mail transfer boxes are cleverly labeled 'W.A.S.T.E.', I'm all for it.

I would prefer not to call it this, merely because the combination of "snowden," "secrets," and "catch-22" really screw up search results.

That's about when it stops. Once you hit 30, it's all about having enough information to regret everything you ever did in life. Then you just wait to die. Why bother trying to save this mess now?

Every time a 'new' president does something that seems completely illegal on a national security matter, I have this little film reel (er, h.264? Youtube video?) that plays in my head. It generally begins in the Movie-Standard hi

I also greatly enjoyed the claims that a pre-industrial society's building methods were "greener" than those used on a massive scale today. I think I sprained an eye muscle from the abrupt roll.

Since the head of the NSA is a senior military officer, they are likely to be the most qualified to head the military's computer offense capabilities. Theoretically, there is presidential and congressional oversight to prevent them fro

Hah, this shows what you know! If a browser plugin for IE6 causes problems, we just remove more sites from the whitelist on the proxy! You can Google, but you can't follow any of the results. :-)

Playing devil's advocate, keep in mind that domestic computer security is part of the NSA's charter. Remember the rainbow books? It would be completely legitimate for MSFT to warn NSA about vulnerabilities in the most common desk

If that were the case, we wouldn't have multi-level CPU caches and we really wouldn't care about misses stalling the processor. Everything is RAM speed bound when it comes to CPU and GPU.

I was thinking about this as well. It would make sense to cluster these with a front-end node. The improvements to the scheduler, among other things over the past few years, would indicate a simpler way to build the equivalent of a VAXClu

As Facebook, Google, and Yahoo! have demonstrated so far, a company can only make itself look worse by making any statement. Any denial will be rejected as dissembling or sophistry and admissions of complicity would be suicidal.

If the US government were to take action on this, the mostly likely consequence is seizure of the funds. They'd target the site itself, which might give them a list of names (which, at the most, they'd lateral to the IRS for fun)
