Kind of anti-climactic finish when the counter passed 1 billion and the timer simply reset to 23 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds.

These kinds of vehicles are abundant in China and much cheaper. http://search8.taobao.com/search?q=%B5%E7%B6%AF+%C8%FD%C2%D6... Most of these are under $2000. Like electric motorbikes, they can be rapidly charged on the road all over Chin

I don't feel charging money for services or software is in any way immoral. But all other things being equal, I would rather work on a free, open source project than proprietary software. It just feels better to provide something useful to

I'd love to see more analysis of how big open source projects stay funded. Blender 3D is a great example of an amazing app that rivals thousand-dollar software packages and regularly produces open movies. I think I saw Google was one of the

I would quibble with your definition of stealing in the case of copying a content company's product. Certainly it's not in the content company's best interest for one person to purchase a CD and then make a copy for his neighbor. But what m

I've been reading the early release. So far it's the best resource on C I've come across, although I am a C beginner. It's quite practical, focusing on basic tools at the start and then getting into syntax, code structure, and libraries.

Actually the most popular distribution I've seen in China is not vanilla Android but a version called MIUI[1]. So in the sense that Android can be forked, it seems more analogous to Linux than Windows. 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIUI

The kitchen sprayers work well for me because you can adjust the pressure by squeezing. The best situation would obviously be to have it hooked up to a heater water supply with the ability to adjust the heat (like a bath/shower). I was able

Can someone point me to a product (preferably on Amazon) that's exactly like the sprayers in Thailand? One that can be screwed into a toilet's water supply, not a kitchen sink's.

If Linus doesn't read code (I know that's an exaggeration--he has trusted subordinates who do) and there are ~1000 people contributing code changes, I'm curious about who actually ensures that no one sneaks in a backdoor to the kernel. I me

Resigning is honorable, but he might have kept his job if he made a public apology. The American people are generally quick to forgive public figures whose sins have come out and then confess. Lance Armstrong, on the other hand, is not like

I don't see it that way. To me, it raised my awareness of USB 3.0 storage speeds. I won't necessarily click any links or buy that specific device without further investigation. And if I did buy through an affiliate link, I would be happy th

For anyone who hasn't lived in China it's hard to imagine how much better Taobao is than EBay. No fees for buyers or sellers, no transaction fees for up to 1000 RMB purchase, same day delivery in many cities, prices that are way better than

I've had fewer platform errors on EC2 than with Heroku (although many of Heroku's outages were directly caused by AWS failures). So it seems Amazon does a somewhat better job at eliminating most of the need for customer service.

You're right. Compare the experience with AWS. They were clearly looking out for their customers best interest whereas with Heroku, it's not so clear.

The email was a newsletter which contained many announcements unrelated to the impending charges. I felt they should have made the notice much more prominent and so I'm alerting other Heroku customers to be more vigilant.

Does this mean there is no way to even charge sellers who use your service, other than requiring them to fill out their own credit card on your site? That seems like an extra hassle for setting up a service that charges users for use of the

What about the fact that you can't share programs that you write on an iPad? Apple doesn't allow code downloads inside of apps. I would hardly call Apple an open platform anymore.
