Intel lowered their prices with the release of the 18 core for 2000$. Before AMD became competitive again you had to pay 1700$ for only 10 cores or go for a 3000$ or 4000$ 18 core Xeon. EDIT - of course there are also Xeons between 10 and 1

They should do the same for software companies that produce software for the governments, with the requirement to open source the software.

Intel X99 mainboards (socket 2011-3) ranged from 200-600 us dollars. AMDs offerings typically go for less than Intels, but Threadripper has an gigantic 4094 pin LGA socket, so I guess this will negate the typical AMD price advantage regardi

Yeah, depending on the configuration it would maybe even be enough for 7 GPU's with 8x PCIe 3.0 (60 of the 64 are feeding PCIe and M.2 slots, 4 go to the chipset). Seems like it will be a nice CPU to use for machine learning. Other sit

Nice, 64 PCIe 3.0 lanes for all Threadripper SKUs. That would be enough for 7 GPU's with 8x PCIe 3.0 (60 of the 64 are feeding PCIe and M.2 slots, 4 go to the chipset). Seems like it will be a nice CPU to use for machine learning. Oth

It seems Skylake X will not be soldered [0] unlike previous HEDT CPU's from Intel. AMD even solders their normal consumer CPU Ryzen. How much will Intel save with this? 2 to 4 dollars per CPU? I'm also curious what that means for

Probably, but more likely because of AMD's HEDT (high end dedktop) platform called Threadripper which will have up to 16 cores (32 Threads). Before AMD announced Threadripper Intel had only a 12 core chip on the roadmap for the x299 pl

Ah, good to know. Just tried sbt (build tool for scala) with Nix (have no experience with Guix, but like that everything is in the same language) and it indeed creates .ivy and .sbt caches in the home directory. Everything else goes into th

I assume unless you use software which installs it's cache/other stuff into the user home directory, right? Then you would also need to delete these dirs as well?

They stated at the analyst day that they will support TensorFlow, Theano, Caffee etc. And will release something called MiOpen. They also stated this last year: > On top of ROCm, deep-learning developers will soon have the opportunity t

There is also MRAM [0] which ships from a company called Everspin [1][2] and is produced by Globalfoundries. Unlike Intels/Microns solution it seems to be as fast as normal RAM, but at much smaller densities. [0] https://en.

The EPYC is 4 dies connected by AMD's Infinity Fabric. I wonder how much cheaper that makes the chip to produce. Regarding the L3 cache: if nothing changed from Ryzen it will be 64 MByte.

They clearly never looked at the task manager or something similar. I'm running ~900 threads on my CPU which has only 6 cores and 12 threads. Magic! ;o)

They also announced Threadripper, which is AMD's new HEDT platform with up to 16 cores and 32 threads, they also showed Radeon Vega Pro SSG (16 Gbyte HBM and 2 Terabyte SSD on the GPU) and DeepBench vs Nvidia P100 (with an advantage of

I hope self driving cars take the crown in the future. The more the F1 is regulated the more boring it get's (at least for me). Since no driver is in danger they could make the cars faster and the race tracks more interesting. Maybe th
