I'm curious - What is the utility of headless browsers? Are there people who earn money by getting it to automatically fill out forms, enter competitions etc?

In plenty of cases, the outsider or convert better understands the religion than the native believer. I saw a documentary about Mount Athos, and all the young Greek monks were admitting that being a monk was just a way to get out of the eve

In the case of Judaism, Israel makes Orthodox conversion more useful since it doesn't accept you as a real Jew if you are a convert to a more weak tea version of Judaism. People who convert are usually stronger believers, so they would

I didn't mix Z and Parsi. I didn't even mention Parsi. I just can't find anything online which suggests Indian Zoroastrians accept converts. Just (dispassionate) explanations that they don't. And that's fine with me

"Roberts isn't ... trying to speak publicly as a Hindu" I'm not sure this sounds like a reasonable standard to join any religion. "If you're a convert, shut up". Sounds like second class status. This stuff

"the majority would consider them Z" That's not what a few google results tell me. It seems, in India the answer is definitely No, while in Iran the answer is Maybe. The Indian No is presumably to stop the religion dissipatin

I don't know - but being a Hindu seems as much an ethnic thing as a religious thing. So I get the same feeling as reading about Rachel Dolezal.

Are these people really Zoroastrians: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Converts_to_Zoroastri... My eyebrows rose when I heard Julia Roberts was a Hindu, and perhaps these people are the same. In love with exotici

I wouldn't be surprised if Zoroastrian Parsis had the highest IQ of any group, even though I have no data to confirm that. Higher than Quakers, Ashkenazim, Episcopalians and even Unitarians.

In Brazil, American ideas of affirmative action have been imported. This leads to unsavoury situations where nose width and skull shape are being measured to determine who gets a job. http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/04&#x

The article addresses this question: "Received wisdom is that the more diverse the teams in terms of age, ethnicity, and gender, the more creative and productive they are likely to be. But having run the execution exercise around the w

"Diversity in everything except thought" is the mantra. The problem with this is that to solve problems you need diversity in thought: https://hbr.org/2017/03/teams-solve-problems-faster-when-the...

It's true the UK gov is not being helpful. But the UK gov supported remain. All major parties did. In the language of the vulgar tabloids, the British worker has been spit-roasted by both the EU and the UK government. One of those is w

This is the crux of the matter. Giant companies hijack the hands-around-the-world narrative of the left for their own monetary purposes. In the US, the narrative is that there will be 'crops rotting in the fields' if cheap labour

I learnt on another HN thread that Ryzen is now working on Mac. 10.9 only at the moment, but hopefully that will change: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntJLxbwurK4

Yeah, good point. I don't think it was a particularly good design. I read somewhere that the philosophy was 'not to do the obvious thing and put the guts of the computer behind a large screen' - which is what they eventually

You should pay less for that awful constrictive design. Apple's product history is littered with failures due to design-led development. G4 cube, round mouse, tube-shaped Trashintosh. Any time the object is based on a standard shape li

My google-fu seems to be failing, since I can't find an example of the larger e-ink displays being used with the pi. (excluding kindle and kobo hacks)

'Concise and precise' seems the be the goal of this language. Like assembly language. It doesn't seem useful for mere humans. I would prefer playfulness and ambiguity.
