Thanks for sharing! You've had nice continuous monthly growth with the direct queries. API usage seems to be hovering at 10M...any reasons for that? Was the jump in direct queries between December(2.4M) and January(5.1M) a result of the D

Thank you. I guess I just have to go dig through the Illumos/OpenIndiana documents.

I agree the foundation is critical. So would you say that the extensive community use of KVM on SmartOS has decided it is production quality compared to use on Linux?

FreeBSD has already had ZFS and DTrace for years. They have Jails which would have benefited from Solaris' stronger Zones/Containers. There are already a lot of BSD users. Where are the Illumos users? Are you suggesting that all BSD user

Can you provide more details of Crossbow? Who maintains it/status? I hadn't heard anything about it since OpenSolaris went dead.

Thanks. But didn't they also have a lot of FreeBSD such as during the TextDrive days?

I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around this. If Joyent wanted to stick with a UNIX then why not FreeBSD and help implement KVM there? Wasn't XEN already available for Dom0? I just don't see much mindshare in Illumos/SmartOS fo

Nice! I was going to suggest adding Lua and Tcl but they're available on the Embedded page. The link in the title goes to the Scripting page.

Thank you. So the Xen dom0s are using IP Routing and not bridging. Do we know the details of Heroku's LXC configurations for dynos on their Amazon Domu instances? http://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/dyno-isolation "On the Heroku dyno man

Secure meaning there is a private back-end network or there is some form of tunneling/encryption end-points available and enabled by default for instances? Here's the current AWS security guide that I was able to find: http://awsmedia.s3.

If you travel in more than just...ahem...Indonesia(I'm presuming), you'll notice they are "everywhere" in multiple SE Asian countries. As Nokia reigned supreme from the 90's until just a few years ago, Blackberry has become the new dumb sm

For those who may have missed a great discussion on "lunch at the office" a few months ago from a Joel Spolsky blog post: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2494398 http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2011/04/28.html

Linode is pretty good about accurate updates for Requests For Outages(RFO): http://status.linode.com/ I don't keep track of the totals but I think it you search their forums, I seem to recall someone who had monitored them with Pingdom o

Overall they have great service. Only their Fremont location has been a bit touchy this year. I've been with them since the days they used UML before Xen and if it's any consolation, I have experienced at least one downtime in each DC(but

I'm guessing you haven't been affected by any of the Fremont(Hurricane Electric DC) outages? I have a lot of Linode boxes and love their service but I'm still splitting load with different providers as well.

This is a real gem. I've been thankful to have a great career in computers the last 20 years and everyday I'm reminded how little I actually know about our history. We really do stand on the shoulders(and success) of giants.

I'm not sure how well "relegated" is going to go over here since Vim and Emacs are considered by many the best editors. If you're on a Gnome-flavored Linux, then many "lesser" editors can use GVFS to remotely work on files.
