My wife was in a hospital in Danang and they were telling us if she doesn’t improve they’ll have to airlift her to Bangkok since they didn’t have the capability for further care in the country. That was almost 10 years ago so hopefully thi

I’m somewhat hopeful. For me getting out of the media bubble was actually super easy once you just do it and now I feel like I have a more accurate view of the world and a lot less stress. If people stop overdosing on CNN and Fox and Facebo

There will always be some opportunistic groups looking to cause more mayhem in chaotic situations like this. These protests have been literally “mostly peaceful” no?

It’s also a procrastinators trap. Hey I’m getting stuff done - I’m looking for the ideal app and format to take notes!

I used to clean the office/locker rooms of a concrete prefab factory while in school for some income. Talk about existential. Literally the same thing every night and a seemingly pointless task since it would be the same mess within mi

Even on the frontend it’s kind of overblown. If you’re at a stable-ish company you learn react and a few missing pieces from the JS stdlib but most other stuff is already set up or you Google how to set it up and move on.

People need to listen to more George Carlin. Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.

I’m glad I had a real progression unlike most people who do a CS degree and then get a high paying job. I did manual min wage labor as a teen, then min wage IT work, then barely above that “programming” work in my small city, then finally m

A lot of engineers also fail to see that they could just do less and leave on time every day and actually use their “unlimited” vacation! You won’t get rewarded for the extra stress and effort so just stop doing it and set expectations acco

I don’t think that’s a good escape. I tried owning my business and I hated it 10x more than being just a engineer. Instead of spending 70% of my hours doing what I like it became more like 30%

That’s what I always thought about programming. So fun when you do it as a hobby and meh when you’re 10+ years into building business requirements

But then you’re a business owner and a manager. It’s mostly not golf. As I’m sure anyone who has had a business here already knows very well.

I think what the author is missing is that they don’t have a captive audience to spout off on since now it’s very very easy to tune out a meeting that’s a waste of time.

Yeah zoom is totally fine for work. I really don’t get why it’s for some so dramatically worse. At least on my team everyone has bought a real microphone and know how to share a screen. Cameras are on for <10 people meetings unless you’r

You can get very cheap car loan offers right now which might be interesting. 0 or 0.9% for 3-4 years. Given 3-7% inflation it’s a nice discount if you have the cash to take advantage of better returns

Supply chain issues is perhaps the most common explanation the experts and laypeople are using for inflation? Aren’t those directly due to lockdowns and restrictions as factories aren’t running full speed.

I agree - I also feel like it would be dumb luck to have been born in the place best suited for me. I’d rather experience a few places that seem appealing and then pick one. Life of course gets in the way but that’s been my way so far. With

It sounds fun- I will say that living somewhere for a week or a month is pure honeymoon so don’t think it’s being very objective. A year, two years, five years. My feeling about a place changes to polar opposites during that time. Love it,
