The alternatives popping up are largely even worse than traditional media. Full on Fantasy as news. Whatever makes people feel enraged/smug. I’m not sure why everyone is cheering the death of all these institutions when there are no so

Thanks- the site is getting a death hug so I can’t read the whole article

Isn’t that kind of nonsensical reasoning? The viruses evolved how they evolved. I don’t see how the decade they emerged in makes a difference? It didn’t cause a pandemic because of the properties of the virus. Not because of the “decade”

Sure, I mainly meant that if someone posts their minimalist stack and it’s a mattress on the floor and a cardboard box with a old ugly computer on it, they’ll most likely get made fun of at best even if they’re actually embodying more of th

Washington has also had unusually wet years that encourage more growth on the forest floor so there is more fuel by the time the 3 month dry and hot season rolls over

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a minimalist with a cheap Ikea coffee table and a 10 year old laptop. I’m sure some exist but for any that bother posting about it online it seems like an excuse to buy expensive things that align with the “aest

I did try it. It did not blow my mind. The experience is not really any different from the state machines of olden times unless you’re only asking easy to Google questions

I interviewed for a “AI” company and asked them about their tech that could take phone calls and extract orders! Wow really cool and impressive! How do you solve X? Oh we have a call center in Mexico that takes all the calls. So you have no

Yeah it’s funny I never watch movies on Netflix anymore. I need to rent or buy on Prime Video because the selection on Netflix is basically nonexistent

Ads are only a part of it. Most news sites push ideological views as the core content. Most social media push memes and consumerism and conspiracies as the core content. Ad blockers do nothing for the deeper rot in the system

Cheapest by effort plus taste divided by cost maybe. It’s still much cheaper to buy a bag of rice and a bag of beans and some frozen veggies. You can eat sub $1 meals

Retirement doesn’t mean you have to move to Florida to golf and flirt with grannies. The point is that you can do whatever you want - it might be some sort of work. It’s a question of what would I do if I didn’t have to build my whole life

That’s not really refuting it. It’s very hard to make 100 meaningfully different versions of an oil painting. With pixel art you can pretty much write a script to do it

I traded custom scripts on a IRC channel. People would pay me with party hats and Santa hats which were some of the most ridiculously priced assets in the game. The macro client even had a captcha queue where other miners could earn credits

That’s a very romantic view of the goals of game design. For a live service game the metrics to hit are mainly retention and monetization. Whether something is subjectively fun doesn’t really come into the picture
