Whenever I see functions like these and PostgreSQL's JSON functions, I get the feeling that MySQL/MariaDB is not progressing, or not nearly as fast. For those who have worked with both, do you find the PostgreSQL-only functions an

I have been thinking about this for a long time. It would be a great open source project. If you want to do it, I would be willing to work with you on it.

I wonder how many of the products and services of the top 0.01% he used in creating that article. My bet: he used MS Word on a Mac, using Google at the very least. His next article could be about how the products of the 0.01% people have en

I've used ihackernews.com in the past, and maybe it is time to go back. This problem occurs on other websites, too, so it is not a complete solution.

No, and that is what I would usually do since I understand how these things work. (IE does come in handy at times.) The point that I am trying to make is that normal users who don't know these tricks can run into this barrier.

Here's an example: I just failed to login to Zonino myself. I enter in the Gmail address that I use for registrations and other junk. I get the message: "Accounts don't match. You are currently signed into Google as [my nor

My favorite is that they seemed to have spent a few hours (more than 3!) improving their code so that it would run in 15 minutes instead of three hours.

Macs do that??? I'm surprised that I never discovered it on the wife's Mac. I deal with other languages so much, this might be the one thing that tips me toward using one.

This is what they could have done to save the data: - replace the hard drives - start renting the servers to other people - save the old hard drives just in case How much would it have cost them to save the old hard drives on 600 servers?

Something was happening with their routers, too. Using PingPlotter to one of my servers shows severe packet loss on the hos-bb2.juniper2.rz19.hetzner.de router. I see it just cleared up for now. Still, I'm moving my traffic to other locat

Thanks. I haven't tried suggesting freelance projects to people not actively looking. My feeling is that they would probably say that they are too busy, or worse, say "yes" and not find time to get it done.

I've always thought that we need to make it very easy for HN: somebody, please post some CSS that is short, simple and does the job; so simple and elegant that they will have no choice but to copy and paste it into the news.css file. EDIT:

This is probably too late... Right clicking an element, you have "Copy CSS Path". I want the same thing for JS. Something where copy/paste gives me "getElementById()" for the element or some other way to uniquely identify that element in JS

Raising the price is what I advocate, too. At the current price, squatting on a domain name can be profitable if it brings in $10/year. Raise the price of a domain name to $50/year, and millions of domains will free up. In fact, I, too, w
