You don't even need it to be an OS X host, only Apple hardware. VMware allows you to install OS X on ESXi hosts that run on Mac mini or Mac Pro (but disables that functionality on all non-Apple hardware).

Git is (mostly) GPLv2. The other licenses, at least according to git's docs, are GPLv2 compatible.

CAcert doesn't have a WebTrust audit and is therefore not included in many cases. They've talked about audits in the past but every time it comes up it eventually stalls. I have no insight into their process, but I'd suspect

I didn't believe you so I just checked and now it's time to eat crow! You are absolutely right. I will update the original to note that my statement is completely wrong.

I ran the technical side of a global CA for 5 years (left the industry early this year) and I can tell you that while validation (outside of EV) is relatively simple, the technical/legal/audit aspects add up to a significant cost.

You seem to be engaging in some revisionist history of Gatekeeper. The original concern was that it would be turned to MAS apps only by default, which it wasn't (and still isn't in Mavericks). By default the only thing you need is

Unless your ARM has LPAE you do. I'm unsure if any ARMv7 chips out there are using LPAE yet? Anybody know? (Memory addressing info from ARM re: LPAE and ARMv8: http://infocenter.arm.com/help/topic/com.arm.doc.

Just in your example there's already a problem. If you don't use something like OAEP padding (PKCS1 v1.5 padding has been proven to have issues) then you're vulnerable to attack (see: Bleichenbacher http://www.bell

You hold a rather unusual view of how the iPhone progressed. The subsidy model already existed for numerous other smartphones -- but they sucked. Apple sold ~4 million iPhones from launch to end of 2007. Those were unsubsidized purchases a
