I haven't read the article, but why not follow your passion that at least guarantees you a job in this industry. It's not what you "TRULY," want to do, but at least your making a living in the field you have an interest

Attempt clear and open communication with your boss. If they are receptive and want to help awesome stay there/cont. to work hard for them. If not go find somewhere else to work that respects you and your hard work!
