I wouldn't mind the requirement to have cable so much if that was all it was. I have cable, but my cable provider does not offer a package with MSNBC so I'm out of luck.

Tennis fans regularly suffer this same nonsense from NBC every year with the French Open and Wimbledon[^1]. I can't see them changing anytime soon. Relatedly, their whole cable TV package requirements for online streaming is also very annoy

Why do you feel so strongly about this but not about Motorola (and by extension, Google) trying to do the same thing to Apple's devices?[1] Not that I like any of this, just saying Apple's hardly the only company that does this, they all do

It does appear from Samsung's website that the Series 9 (the NP900X3A variant, anyway) does have user-replaceable RAM and supports a maximum of 8GB. Dell's XPS 13 Ultrabook appears to have a user replaceable SSD, but not RAM. That Lenovo X2

Yeah, Lenovo's using 8GBx2, but even so, it's a very heavy markup. Newegg wants about $125 for such sticks[1]. It'd be about $85 for 4GBx4[2] if that is in fact what Apple's using I also just navigated the labyrinth that is HP.com and looke

$200 to go from 8GB to 16GB was among the most reasonable of notebook vendors I saw in my research last night. Lenovo, for example, wanted $1,060 to go from 4GB to 16GB in the ThinkPad X230. Regardless, I don't think anyone looking at such

It was true that the Mac Pro didn't receive any updates in the prior two years because there simply wasn't a new Intel chipset to update to... But Intel's Sandy Bridge Xeon chipset and new E5 processors have now been put for a few months, w

Except that Dell is now using the newer Sandy Bridge E5 Xeon processors while Apple's using models over 2 years old. One simply can't compare what Apple's now offering with other workstations.

They offered to license patents recently, http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/03/though-steve-jobs-famou... And the Samsung conglomerate is huge, with $220 billion in yearly revenue and ~350000 employees. Apple's revenue in 2011 was half th

Google owns Motorola Mobility, one can assume they have some say in these recent suits. I think this whole thing (companies suing each other over things like this) is wrong, but It's how the system works and so Apple has to play as well.

Samsung's a bit larger than Apple. And Apple has said before that they'd rather have these companies (Samsung, HTC, etc) make a license agreement for the patents (like Microsoft's and HTC's deal with each other) rather than sue them or try

I don't think you can consider the Galaxy Nexus a Samsung phone. Yes, it's built by Samsung, but they're more a contractor for Google in this case. The Galaxy S II and its differing variants in the US all still run Android 2.3, with only pr

Perhaps, though the iPhone 4 and 3GS are the 2nd and 3rd best selling current smartphones as well. Additionally, with the iPhone now available on yet another US carrier (Sprint), there's more people who can now buy iPhones. I know a number

I've come across a number of Kindle eBooks with numerous typos or other errors. It's like they simply OCR'd a printed book and didn't bother to check for issues ('Too Big to Fail' by Andrew Ross Sorkin is the most egregious I've bought). Ma

This is clever. I'm not sure why Dropbox doesn't offer plans with less space, and make it more affordable. For the $100/yr a 50GB account costs, you can get 100GB (plus unlimited storage of AAC/MP3 music) from Amazon via Cloud Drive. Grante

I have switched from the 3G+WiFi Kindle 3/Kindle Keyboard to the new $79 Kindle and am pretty happy with it. Gets rid of the stuff I didn't use (Audio playback, speakers, keyboard) to make a device even smaller. 3G is something I used so ra

There are only so many ways to design a unique rectangular phone or tablet, but Samsung tries to make theirs look closer to Apple's than the others. Samsung's TouchWiz interface, at least on the phones, could easily be mistaken for Apple's
