There's a difference between risk and desperation. OPs post reads like desperation. Successful entrepreneurship requires calculated and intelligent risk taking. Not hail mary desperation because you're out of a job.

The real problem is that HN needs a mascot... How about a little alien?

Looks awesome. Curious if you are the developer? If so, did you pay your help (graphics, sound, etc) or were they volunteers? If so, how much should one budget to hire people for that end?

Um, the billing address you enter is often used to compare against the billing address on file with the CC company for security purposes. So you need the billing address, too. The security code wouldn't hurt, either.

USPS also delivers small to medium sized parcels. For me, it's less about what they'd like to try. They'd be fine if they could just sit tight on mail delivery. However, they're under attack by crony capitalists. They get _NO_ government mo

The Pauls are not neoconservatives, that is for sure. They are traditional paleoconservatives. There are few politicians we'll agree on everything with. I think that political parties are just dangerous hiveminds. Republican, Democrat, Libe

I've been concerned about this for a long time. The USPS has operated without government funding for years but is in the hole because they have been forced to pay more into the civil service retirement fund than needed. I consistently get b

Great, more TDD evangelism. I would love to see an empirical study proving the claims made about TDD in this article and numerous others. It seems to me TDD is a huge waste of time when prototyping a minimum viable product. You want me to s

It is honestly a bit offensive to any white person who grew up with serious problems, of which there are many. The term first-world problems is much more acceptable.

Have you considered that maybe they just overlooked the inconsistency you found? Never attribute to malice what you can to ignorance.

Piracy is not freedom of speech. It is the copying and syndication of the intellectual works of others. I suspect more HNers would be upset about piracy, if they weren't using SaaS business models which are not as vulnerable to it. It's rea

Thinking about this just makes my mind go numb. All someone had to do was have the idea that they should back their database up. It would be done in 5 minutes, tops! I automated ours on S3 with email notifications in under an hour...

If anything, after reading OP's second article, I think he's too humble. OP has accomplished a lot, but his article overall seems to be VERY humble to me. Impostor syndrome is an accurate assessment. FWIW.

You are correct to list those other definitions. I still think people who tell someone to be humble are pretentious.

Why would someone want to be humble? Lets look at the definition: hum·ble /ˈhəmbəl/ Adjective Having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance. When you're telling someone to be humble, what you're real

That's because the article does not argue against REST APIs. It argues against coding wrappers for them and instead proposes a solution that allows you to define API specific behavior in JSON and use one library to rule them all.

Of course. I understand that "a" + "b" when taken to mean "concatenate the strings" is "ab" but OP's post was a calculator. It would not have yielded this result.

I personally would be a horrible co-sleeper. I can set 5 alarms and hear none. I only wake up at the end of a sleep cycle, no matter what's happening around me.

This is an excellent point. I just bought a new mattress and I can say for sure, after having slept on a $100 target futon for the past 2 years, that I'd not know if a baby was underneath me on this one...

A person with common sense would look at the mass of a baby, and the mass of an adult human. They'd consider their tendencies to sleep heavily, and perhaps conclude that the adult could easily roll over on the baby, and kill it. Or knock it
