I found that number hard to believe, but then looked it up. The estimate is 2700 homeless in Santa Cruz out of a population of 60,000. In comparison, SF has estimated about 7000 homeless in a city of 800,000.

To get started with home weightlifting, you want an Olympic barbell, rubber "bumper plate" type weights, and a squat stand. If you have the room a squat cage and a bench are also useful.

I'm not sure what you are talking about at this point. You are mad because taxi drivers are supposed to follow the law, because of slavery? Seems a bit incoherent.

Cabbies used to routinely discriminate against whomever they felt like, mostly black and brown people who needed to get uptown. That is why the laws prohibiting refusal to take you were you want to go were instated in the first place.

The body type of world class 100m competitors is due to genetics and steroids. Sprint workouts don't make people muscular. Muscular guys gravitate towards those events. Also, HIIT workouts are nothing like what 100m runners do to train.

Are extended stays stigmatized elsewhere? Yes. Try ordering a side of bacon then covering it with your own couple slices of bread to simulate the taste of an actual sandwich (at one third of the cost) and see if you'll be allowed to hang

I did not find there was high demand or high salaries for a programmer knowing Node & RoR in Australia 2 years ago. There were programming jobs, but they seemed to be mostly IT department style jobs. The job boards were dominated by rec

Yeah, it's one industry I'm very familiar with. It's what dublinben said, there is no profit. It's even a bit worse than that - there are significant losses involved. The sites are expensive to run and the labels can charge whatever they wa

Most good startups do hire this way. At least, at first. As you mention, it's hard to scale. A handful of larger companies seem to know how to recruit at scale... Google, Apple, Palantir, Facebook, etc.
