Completely agree with you, hardcore XAML developer and I walked away for React and Tailwind CSS. I will never write another desktop app again.

I’d say that depends. I got sucked into a couple of different “opportunities” that turned out to be clown shows and I had to leave under six months both times. It was pretty hard on my CV, but what are you going to do?

I got you beat (no offense intended). Back in the dotcom boom my company hired a guy who would come in to the office, throw his jacket over a chair and then go to his other full time job. It took them two months to catch on.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it. I also agree with you. What I’m emphasizing is that our government prefers to go after weak targets. Not sure why you are being downvoted, you make a good point.

The sad thing is that our government seems to make a point of screwing with kooks. I don’t care if McAffee owed some taxes - leave the guy alone, he’s obviously unstable, has major problems with drug and alcohol addiction and all they can d

I’m embarrassed to say this on HN, but straight up I thought 9600 baud connections were the shit in the late eighties - who would ever need more bandwidth than this?!? Now I get pissed off when the 4K video on my phone stutters for a second

I’ve always liked foxes. I was an avid coyote hunter for years and used to call foxes in all the time. They’re hilarious because when they come smoking in for the kill and realize it’s a trap they try to act nonchalant and just veer off lik

Yeah, the health care system here is bonkers. It wasn't so bad back around 2008 or so, I had private health insurance for my wife and I, and it was only around $400 or so a month with almost no deductible. Then the government decided t

I'm sorry, but no - a "huge segment the population" does not consist of people with screwy names. The reason for that is that most parents follow cultural / social norms when naming their kids, which reduces friction for

I’d like to say I’m being glib here, but doesn’t the fact that the NSA gives someone named Reality Winner a clearance kind of put the blame on them for this one? You hire a flake, you’re gonna have to deal with the fallout.

Sounds dumb but I go camping a lot and still want to access various informational APIs when I’m in limited cell reception areas so I built a bridge that allows me to hook my APIs up to text messaging. I just send a text like “news” and get

This is a fantastic idea. I’ve found that nothing is more annoying than to get through like five minutes of a take when recording a video and then having to redo it because I slipped up. I would love to be able to write a script, be prompte

It’s not irrational for people who aren’t worried about Covid to not worry about it. I didn’t downvote you and I understand your point of view, but you have to take other people’s perspectives into consideration - to me, Covid is a bad flu

I kind of miss the old days when I could go through life without ever knowing that some guy in North Carolina got in a fight with his brother-in-law over a borrowed lawnmower. My solution is to stay off social media altogether.
