One thing I've noticed on iOS is that often app updates seem to reset my preferences. Not every update, of course, but I notice notifications months/years after I am 100% positive I disabled that category previously.

Right, but in particularly heavy snowfall, it's not hard to imagine snow encasing the chassis. Once the snow forms a barrier around the body, the exhaust has nowhere to go. Or if the pipe gets blocked (which is a bit harder to imagine,

Yeah, I find it pretty silly, too. There used to be extended range fuel tank options on some vehicles, but they've largely gone away. I believe some tests are done with x% of fuel on board, so of course a larger tank will mean a greate

I suspect most cars will still be in the 250-400mi range sweet spot, same reason that's where we're at with gas cars.

Hopefully this will allow cheaper cars to get ~400mi of range but I doubt we'll ever see much more in mainstream cars. Batteries are simply too expensive and too heavy. Fuel tanks are cheap to build, but we still see no gasoline passen

Is this freeway stat per lane-mile? Rail often has 2 sets of tracks along a corridor, or at most 4. Roads have a lot more. I'm guessing even a busy/congested freeway has a greater throughput per lane than transit; even with automo

I don't have FSD, just basic autopilot, but I'm unhappy enough with the lane following/braking/accelerating behavior that I only use it in very limited cases. Unless FSD improves on these -- which I don't think it d

Not just SoCal; watch the auction sites. I really only wanted an AP2 in Rio Yellow Pearl, and their values are perilously close to $30k. In fact, a 70k mile example I bid on last year on BaT or C&B (in San Jose) went for over $30k. Ulti

I'm about to start paying for YouTube for the first time ever. Of course, they make it complicated because I don't actually want their bundled music service. And the "lite" version says most videos are ad-free. But wha

I was just thinking about this the other day -- hotels so badly want me to book directly with them instead of using, say Booking.com. But then to book directly and get the "guaranteed cheapest!" price, I have to sort through even

I think this may be overestimating how often people buy tablets. My wife has an iPad Air 1 or 2, so it's close to 10 years old and mostly sits in a drawer. I had a VERY old iPad 2 that I held off on replacing because I wanted to wait f

+1 for Infuse. I tried to make Plex work for me, many times over the years, and it's always been so frustrating. From needing a server that can do transcoding, to demanding that I name my files in the way it wants them to be named, it

I'm not sure what you call it, but the "unified view" thing where you're supposed to be able to view content across providers is a complete nightmare. I'm not actually sure how I end up there -- I think it happens a

This feels like an unnecessarily defensive take. I think these lists are more meant to be humor or thought-provoking. If anything, I think they serve to point out to non-programmers why programming is difficult, not to call programmers stup

Of course it’s more space than I need. My point was that heating 600sqft doesn’t strike me as a trivial task, given my context of heating a house that’s less than double the size in a temperate climate. Not to argue (?) that their house is
