That's pretty crazy. At a big social media company, a service I ran got 300K+ requests per second directly from end users.

We might abandon words for something else, but we wouldn’t need to abandon words because they could continue to work without sounds. That’s because words are a totally distinct concept from sounds. It’s super ironic to talk about how soun

Why is wanting to do X now so you don’t regret not doing X later not a valid reason for wanting to do X? I want to eat lunch now so I’m not hungry later. I want to study hard now so I don’t regret not studying later. Aren’t most motivations

First, words aren’t really related to sound. You and I are using words without sound, are we not? Language is an encoding. One of the things it encodes is shape. And even if you wanted to describe a chair without using the word “chair” you

I think a bigger issue is that Rust just isn't a good language to write a game engine or a UI in. I wrote a toy game engine in Rust and quickly learned it basically sucks. The entire reason games and UIs exist is to mutate state in wei

This isn't a name per se, but I think the effect you're describing is a result of having a really good, original idea without the supporting artistry to create something that is enduringly great. To use your example, consider The

Thanks for that insight. I read the book for the first time in 2015, well after it had already established itself. I can see the appeal if it had a revelatory view on spycraft at the time.

Again, it’s just your preference. No one is forcing you to use such software. It’s not the moral issue you’re framing it as. We also don’t have “decades of data”. Almost all large scale software systems leverage some form of telemetry/

I’m not advocating that users ignore the possibility of spying. All software has the potential to spy on you. But that does not mean you can publicly accuse a developer who wants to add telemetry of spying. > Users should be able to trus

How can you take down a drone with a single bullet? It’s not trivially easy to shoot them down. Also, a “defensive” drone swarm would need more advanced tracking and targeting capabilities, so it would be more expensive. Look at Israel’s Ir
