You might be confusing "garbage collector" and "garbage collection" and Rust definitely has the latter. Reference counting is also a subset of garbage collection. That is a matter of fact, not opinion. See below. https:

Reference counting is quite literally a subset of garbage collection.
35.
by rc00 2y ago
It absolute does. What do you think Arc/Rc are?
36.
by rc00 2y ago
Rust has garbage collection.

And what about all the promises of things making it out of Rust Nightly? When it comes to Zig, one crowd says it's too early because it's not 1.0 fast enough. And now, are you saying that the feature development is basically done?
38.
by rc00 2y ago
It sounds like you haven't seen projects like this yet: https://github.com/ityonemo/clr They're popping up all over. For some reason, Zig folk want Rust things and Rust folk want Zig things.

Cross-compilation with Cgo can be resolved using something like Zig as the compilation toolchain: https://zig.news/kristoff/building-sqlite-with-cgo-for-every...

In the face of Coccinelle for Rust still being unreliable, can you blame him or any maintainer? The codebase is too large to suggest that manual intervention every time something breaks is acceptable, especially when the same automated tool

Both things can be true. This most recent hype cycle seems to be riding the wave from the related hype of Ghostty's public release and Bun's latest release. And recently, another project with decent name recognition by some announ

In C, C imports are in the global namespace. The language is also compiled sequentially, so often, time is spent ensuring headers are included in the proper order, hopefully avoiding a cyclic dependency. In Zig, C imports are done in a stru

Is there going to be a plan for this blatant PR campaign and site manipulation? Is this not against HN's terms?
