Perhaps a good approach would be to assume a format is compromised as it is, but still focus on doing the best possible job of testing students. It should be possible to gear things such that plagiarism does not really do enough to be worth

Nice article. I expect that there will be more and more acceptance that we cannot always be rational, and I expect there will be more and more products that help us to leverage our finite willpower to better make rational decisions. I think

IMO, art involves intention and conveys something. I do not know what to call what it conveys, but it comes from the artist. It is not accidental. So, a piece of software can be beautiful but not art. But software (e.g. games) can convey so

Personally, I can also recommend Philip Turetzky's Time for those interested in the question "What is Time?" from a philosophical (rather than a physical) POV. The book is a survey of thinking about Time from the ancient Gree

If no one says anything, then is there any motivation for it to get any better? Is the article is totally wrong or can it be translated into a problem statement whose solution is an improvement? IMO, it is equivalent to a user complaint abo

That is not obvious (no offense). When I think of "the world", I also think about things beyond "social human behavior". For instance, you could ask how contact with alien life could affect how we use this planet Earth (

Is there anything for which you cannot ask a similar question of the form: Why does xyz exist? Why are things not just [this simpler thing]? For those types of questions, I imagine one would answer: because if it were not so then things wou

A lot of nice information in the article. I think people can be more creative than they realize if they (1) legitimize associative thinking (this is what I translate "being uninhibited" to mean) and (2) insist that they have a bas

Any guesses as to why this would be so? My guess is that people thought they were reading faster at fewer words per line because there was less effort involved. If it were so, I wonder what it should mean for usability? Should you engineer

I also have a dumb question: Where is "AI" in our software development toolchains? Intellisense comes to mind. Compiler optimizations also come to mind. What more is coming or is already out there? Lately, I find myself thinking m

That is correct, in the abstract. There can be programs written in both C and Java that do the same thing. The question is then: if people are writing programs in Java, what is the cause, what is making that happen?
