I would posit that BluRay has been less successful for two other reasons: 1. DVD video quality is good enough for most. 2. The Combination of DRM, unskippable portions, and similar is enough of a barrier to discourage the upgrade. Personall

I wouldn’t expect anyone to maintain something unprofitable indefinitely, but Google’s reputation is to offer something free long enough to destroy any existing market and then kill it when there’s no one left to fill the void. It’d general

There's also no guarantee on the duration of this program. From their FAQ, it appears that it's renewed annually, so it would be very easy to dig in roots only to find out the program has been ended shortly after. At the risk of g

Are coal mines hot like deep metal mines? In The Deep Dark [0], it started that many of the miners skimped on safety devices even when available because of the extreme temperature and humidity if nothing else. [0]: https://www.am

Netflix blocks virtually all VPS provider IP ranges, so you can’t even host your own VPN to work around it.

I purchase a decent amount of digital-only content, and I always strip the DRM off of it. It's relatively easy to do this with content purchased in iTunes.

I absolutely hate their charity solicitation. If I’m going to donate to anything, it’s going to be a charity of my own choice after a thorough vetting with no middlemen. Next time I go there, I’m tempted to request they round down my total

This category of issue is surfacing more and more in marketing of a variety of products and services. Advertisers are using terms that traditionally meant one thing and then redefining them via fine print legalese. Further, they're als

Don’t always assume the full tip goes to the employees. At a place I used to work, the employer took 50% of the gratuity charge for all banquets. If you want the employee to get it, tip in cash.

Vegas has discovered that it doesn't really matter what they charge. People will pay it. Gone are the days where they subsidized food costs with gambling revenue -- I really wouldn't be surprised if the casino floor cocktailers di

The worst part of this situation is that it really accomplishes nothing while opening up avenues for potential abuse. Access to the guest floors did not require any proof of occupancy despite the elevators being equipped with keycard reader

Having just done similar at a smaller scale, that's plausible. A solar charge controller for that capacity is $600-1000 on its own, and the Victron control panel mentioned is north of $500.

I went the Victron route on my setup, primarily because they make whole systems that can talk with each other. I had originally been looking at the Magnum, though.

Air conditioning is incredibly power-hungry when powered from an inverter. My solar experience is with an RV, but even with that lower-powered AC unit, you can realistically expect only 30-60 minutes with the batteries an RV can carry. A ho

Coins seem largely used anymore for tax. How common would any coin smaller than a quarter be without a percentage-based sales tax? Virtually every price is close to either the $.50 or the $.00 mark -- it's the tax that creates the need

I don't find that to be a valid excuse. If a law is worded in such a way that companies or individuals will frequently get it wrong, it's probably a bad law. Call me paranoid, but that seems like it just sets a person up with an e

You need the address to charge them the _correct_ sales tax. In Washington State, the rate is based on the address where the product is delivered, so in the case of your example sandwich, that's the address of the deli.
