Except that Obj-C has pretty simple memory management. It's not like comparing with c or c++. More importantly Obj-C's system makes it easy to control when collection happens so you don't get pauses during inportant interactions. Does lua

The iPad cannot be used for productivity work (coding, writing, even longer emails) Coding apart, it works great for these things if you use the bluetooth keyboard.

While generally a reasonable point of view, which I'm not really contradicting there are a couple of points worth mentioning: 1. Eliminating the keyboard dock makes sense just because the Bluetooth keyboard is a much better solution . I j

And another thing - what about debugging. Are we back to just logging? Personally a slightly simpler syntax for the message sending layer in Objective-C just doesn't seem to give that much leverage. I'd much rather see a functional langua

Lean is about copying what works and stripping out what isn't unhelpful. That's it. Who could possibly disagree with doing that? We're all lean now!

Looks very nice, and god knows it would be nice to have a next generation replacement for obj-c, but... 1. Obj-c may be verbose but XCode 4 does a lot of the heavy lifting with templates, snippets, and auto-completion, not to mention the co

If I could vote this up high enough to reach the pages of the NYT, then I would. It gives so much perspective on the kinds of things other governments and societies could actually be doing right.

Not only do they not have a patent, but they have stated that other vendors are welcome to make use of the magnets. They probably include them in the specs they make available to vendors.

Reminds me of AMPLE - a forth based system from 1984, which was notably used by Vince Clarke of Erasure. ( http://www.colinfraser.com/m5000/m5000.htm ) Take a look at the AMPLE nucleus programmers guide - this thing was incredibly powerfu

But they did't give it away. It was part of the Mac people paid for. They are perfectly entitled to give stuff away. What they can't do is retroactively claim that part of what they sold you before was free.
