Even under communism the collective ownership was for the "means of production", not for they call "personal property" aka "things you bought".

Thanks for doing a great job. I really hate most of the software I have to use these days, but Mattermost is one of the few exceptions. It is fast, it isn't intrusive, it respects me and my time, all while doing what it promises. To me

Yep. We often talk about enterprise software, and how it's often bad and, has superfluous features and almost no UX design because it is made for buyers rather than for the real users. Well, guess what. We're the users now.

One popular solution for that is having a {{See Wiktionary}} tag on the top of the article that adds the text 'For a definition of the term "Stolperstein", see the Wiktionary entry Stolperstein.'

If developer time were really such a huge priority, we would also prioritise moving away from slow-ass compilers/transpilers, frameworks so slow that affect local development, slow IDEs and developer tools, slow CIs. And yet we don

And every user that runs their software is also probably a bit less productive than they could be, since they have to wait around.

I also share your experience. Never saw management or PO complaining about developers taking time to optimise. I actually never even saw an experienced developer taking an inordinate time to optimise something. It's always refactoring

Doesn't cargo-bundle do that? I haven't tried to use it to generate .msi files, only for iOS/macOS, but it has the feature!

The problem is not humour, and I didn't say that anywhere, but rather the sarcastic pedantry at the expense of other people who might not be native speakers. Again, humour is not a problem, but your post is also not funny. I explained

Illegal can have multiple definitions, and some advertisement can be illegal. No, it's not a shame. Mocking someone because their wording is imprecise is a bit shameful, though. Also against the HN guidelines. You can do better.

This part of the macOS developer community bootstrapped itself. Apple at the time was trying to sell Java WebObjects and Carbon/Cocoa in public. The proximity with Linux was an accident. NeXT is from the late 80s, pre Linux, and NeXT w

In the real world there is stuff that is illegal and some of those things can be in image format. And the part that sucks is clearly the retaliation from whoever it was.

It is definitely possible to have determinism in a CI build step, and it's possible to have checks for it. If one needs determinism and a cache, they can store the files on S3 or some other place instead of git. Re-generating the fil

Actually 3 standards, AU, plus VST2 and VST3 which have different APIs. One of the advantages of CLAP would be Midi 2.0 support. But given that VST3 recently released support for Midi 2.0, that's a fair question.

Convolution Reverb was definitely practical on CPUs for much longer than 10 years, and a lot of people were using it, even on underpowered computers (I was using a base model Macbook Air myself since 2011, and yes, LOTS of long reverbs).
