Very nice. This search works with the way I think. I remember being amazed when Kayak came out and again with Hipmunk. This might be next in that sequence.

It is really nice to have the original author show up and comment on something like this. After looking at this site I started thinking about ways of crawling the whole database. The 500-record limit would make an alphabet tree crawl a bit

I have six IBM 2U servers in my home rack (36U). They're really well-designed and the noise level is not too bad even in the room with the rack, but there is also a 1U SuperMicro server in that rack with two Tesla cards and it is so loud a

I don't think that's entirely correct, at least in the United States. As far as I understand the law, it IS legal to videorecord people, children and otherwise in public places with or without their permission and on private property under

Given the nature of the internet, even that's not a fix. If you set up a server, your ISP could shut you off in response to DMCA demands. I suppose you could find an off-shore server, but nothing's foolproof.

Perhaps someone here who actually is a lawyer can answer this or correct my understanding... Under current rules, any plea bargain offers by a prosecutor can't be introduced into the trial. What if that were changed? What if, at the same

I agree. This makes it all the more important that we, as a community, "send a message" by calling out her actions as unacceptable and by peacefully petitioning for her removal from office.

Good points. I like the common-sense approach. Much better than rigid code guidelines that specify precisely when and where how much whitespace goes. If you read a lot of code you'll read code formatted with a lot of minor differences.

Exactly. This whole article could have been distilled down to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicollinearity (but I still thought it was a good read)

They're falling to an intrinsic bias - the technological advances we see are the ones that have already been made. Future advances haven't been made yet; effectively comparing sum(past_technological_advances) with sum(future_technological_

Me too. My Solidoodle 2 arrived last week and I've kept it busy. So far I'm very pleased. The Makerbot 2 does look very nice and I like the high resolution and larger build area - but I'm holding out for one with dual extruders.

Interesting. I hadn't heard about the Oracle Nosql thing and that link didn't work for me, but this does: http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/nosql/overview/in... I wonder what's the story behind that.

For parking near Nob Hill, the Sutter-Stockton garage is the best I've found so far at $350/month. It's close to the Financial District and doesn't smell as bad as some places around here. SF may have some advantages for tech businesses b

Any system I've worked with that didn't use SQL directly ended up implementing poorly a system for describing sets of data. SQL isn't a perfect implementation of relational algebra but it's better than a bunch of nested loops.

Good point. I do remember someone from Yahoo who spoke at the first Startup School about the webmail redesign - but that was five or six years ago. Why is everything stuck in perpetual stasis over there? Is it that the leadership doesn't

I'd start with Yahoo Stores. PG, RTM, and Trevor Blackwell's creation was cutting-edge in 1996 but the web has changed a lot since then and Yahoo Stores hasn't. The store editor would proabably still work with Netscape 3, it's so non-web-

The most recent of my ancestors to have immigrated to the US (I'm American) was Alexander Kerr (b 1694, Roxburghshire, Scotland) although there is some question as to whether or not he was the father of my 6th great-grandfather, John Kerr (
