ES is one of the few techs that I seriously love. The rails support for it is amazing too. The guy creating the rails integration lib is really talented and active.

I think the rails team is showing us they are willing to adapt to future trends in web development. The guys running the show are also basing most of their business on it because they use it every day to develop basecamp and have been doing

It's because a ton of ads are filled with malware, are overly annoying, are untargeted garbage trying to sell me garbage and use a ton of resources because non-tech site owners think it's a good idea to put 15 ads on a page that h

I took cs50x a few years ago. I think every professor in the world should watch and take notes because Malan is one of those people who you will never forget. I recommend cs50x to every single person I know who wants to start programming an

Does anyone else feel weird knowing that when you call that model method it may or may not call out to a background worker task? Why not just throw all of your celery tasks that are related to an app inside of a worker.py file or something

I never click on them either. Come to think of it I never click on a typical archive either. I'm interested in the content, not that you have 17 posts back in October 2008.

I'd rather have semi-painful upgrades if it means making progress and not being stuck with a horrible base of a product. Being stuck with bad design decisions because the framework core team is too busy worrying about making incompatib

You could try spending some time filling in your knowledge gaps. If you're not sure how to price, market it and sell it then try stepping away from the code and start watching presentations or reading posts on those topics. This way yo

I don't know about Django but rails has the idea of "live controllers". Sure it uses polling but didn't you watch DHH's railsconf presentation? They have 5-6 workers and a single redis server which sustains 100k+ re

Not at 4k resolution. They all advertise themselves as 120hz, but that's only at 1080p. Show me a 4k monitor that is using display port 1.20 that is not at a ridiculous price. A computer isn't going to struggle with that resolutio

Unless it can do at least 60hz at 4k then no one should buy this. 30hz is ridiculously bad, even for desktop usage.

Yeah I definitely agree with the drag/drop method not being popular for a lot of people. I'm not sure why, I guess it's because most people were brought up with "open the file dialog and pick the file". If it were t

The demo looks good but look how much fiddling he had to do to get the images the way he wanted them at certain points. There are so many little quirks that you can't really solve intuitively, you end up having to brute force a solutio

I always thought the C stood for compromise because that's almost always what you have to do when you use a CMS. I don't think the future is drag/drop codeless systems. Good luck when your clients ask for very specific work f

I didn't know about #2, that's really cool. How does render_to_string handle cached partials? Does it still need to compute the output of the partial's string representation on every request?
