At some point (many 1000s of terrabytes) it is faster and cheaper to ship the data on physical devices than it is to send it over the network. (I work for AWS)

If you don't click through to read about this: you can write an FPGA image in verilog/VHDL and upload it... and then run it. To me that seems like magic. HDK here: https://github.com/aws/aws-fpga (I work for

Out of curiosity doesn't this just mean the user access token and user access secret are in plaintext? Aren't those useless without the app token/secret -- so if the app is encrypted and you can't run strings to get thos

Heyo, sounds not quite right if you wanna shoot me an email randhunt@amazon.com I'd be happy to try to figure it out. Your API calls shouldn't be that much more than the storage cost without a really strange access behavior. I don

I just tested and didn't run into a 256 character limit. Looks like you can use anything and any number of variables as long as the total size is <4k.

(I work for AWS) I've been livestreaming building a zappa app on twitch.tv/aws ! daysuntilreinvent.com is powered by zappa! I will say that chalice wasn't meant to copy zappa. Chalice and Zappa both started in Jan of 2016. Za

I actually like the gcloud CLI -- I wish its output was more tunable (CSV, Table, JSON)... I also think it's weird they use a ~/.boto config.

I work at AWS and I have questions for the author about this post: TL;DR -- I urge all readers to take this post with a grain/boulder of salt: The author is anonymous, prone to hyperbole and error, and makes multiple unverified claims.

I'll disengage... this argument doesn't really serve our customers well. I'll fully admit that the AWS docs are a pain... but to claim that the google docs are better is... I lack an appropriate adjective.

Worked on google mars in mt view in 2011. Internship. Totally possible I didn't get to see the full benefit of the culture there. I have however seen friends disappear into google over the years and emerge with a distaste -- obviously

If you're doing any sort of table scan op then DDB perf/cost will be less than stellar. If you have an index / range key it works really (like really) well -- even in massively parallel situations. If you're dealing with

Just FYI you can pause and scale with Redshift as well... but if you query very infrequently (or low volume) cost structure of BQ might be on your side.

I'm primarily trying to point out that google's repeated claims that their performance on TPC-H #22 means that BQ is categorically better than Amazon Redshift are misleading. Also I think you meant transactional not transnatio
