You don't want desktop apps, you want a better browser. Put in a URL, download software from it, run it locally. That's a browser. The only thing that Google Apps is missing from that is that it periodically has to hit the server to save yo

To get past the creepiness aspect, let's say that you can only view what someone else is seeing. That's still pretty useful. Imagine that you make this high enough resolution that it's like watching TV, and then small enough that it'll fit

For the reasons lined out here: http://javascript.crockford.com/javascript.html Don't get me wrong, it's my favorite language. I don't want to bash on Javascript. Most of the coding I do for fun is in Dashcode, which I never understood wh

I would like you to be correct but I don't think you are. Javascript with minor syntactic sugar for making DSLs, and with the stupidity around scoping ironed out, that might win out, though.

Joel Spolsky, or maybe Steve Yegge (or maybe both), wrote an article once about how you should always understand your business at a level of abstraction lower than what you actually deal in. If you write in C, know what a C compiler does.

I'm posting this, even though it's a political article, because of their reasoning why political eras change: changes in technology. Supposedly Obama's administration will start a more participatory democracy, which is probably of interest

Assuming you have sawdust and corn stalks. If you're in a part of the world where rainforest is more plentiful than either of those, and you're chopping it down anyway to make farmland...

You're awfully optimistic. Who says that a fungus that makes diesel fuel won't just encourage people to chop down more rainforest so they can make diesel fuel out of it?

The article reads, to me, like a bunch of Air Force managers decided to think outside the box, and a bunch of tech people are telling them why none of it makes sense, and they aren't listening. Anyone involved in this project has my pity.

This article closes with a meme I'm getting pretty annoyed with. "Don't be evil" is not the same as "don't do anything that the author disagrees with".
