I’ve never been to China but I know Panda Express is not Chinese food. You can get very authentic Chinese food in any reasonable sized city in the US. You can appreciate all cultures without having to travel there.

Do you really need to travel to China to get an appreciation for Chinese food? That’s kinda the point the author makes.

The author buries the crux in the middle: travel is fun. It’s rarely if ever, meaningful or transformative. You can do it because it’s fun. You might even learn a thing or two and be awed by the people and sights, but that’s it. I’m yet to

It’s a valid point. We might discover FTL and suddenly slack has to work at the federation level and serve trillions of people. This is such a poor design and won’t scale at that point.

I remember over lunch with a person researching custom DNA vaccines and he mentioned to get personalized injectable grade DNA made per person costs a million dollars. My mind was blown.

Even if it’s almost fine, do you really want to encourage someone to hold a knife with your app and a big black box in front of their eyes, ready for any litigation? I’m definitely getting a vision pro the moment I can, but I am most defini

I’m perfectly aware of that. But you know what operating systems the overwhelming vast majority of PEOPLE use, yes? Sure likely more machines run Linux on servers but that’s like saying your body has more bacteria than your own cells. Techn

As far as I can tell anyone who’s creating images is using midjourney. This is likely the same “Linux is open so it’s way better” tell that to the trillion dollar companies that bet against that.

If it’s trivial then why does every other competitor suck at replicating it? Is it possible this is just a case of sour grapes that this intellectual is annoyed they’re not at the driving wheel of the coolest thing anymore?

This is how it already works - this is what a clinical trial is. If you want to include the data point of a medicine working well as admissible, then you better have more than one patient try it at a time. Unless of course your drug is so g

Do you know how much it’ll cost to store 230 petabytes per month on premises at the same redundancy and availability level? I have done such calculations for academia at a smaller scale and unless you literally want it to last decades it’s

How wrong can someone be? Unless the startups core proposition is some advanced algorithm (like openai), something very hard to replicate, it absolutely does not matter how great their engineers are. They merely need to be barely competent.
