It is literally the same but a more refined term. Just like calling something distended instead of fat.

Continuing the idea that life might be in a completely unrecognizable form, how are we even supposed to study and discover it?

I’m getting annoyed at the disingenuous researchers and reporters who keep repeating it. A cursory look into any red dwarf based system will immediately show how unlikely it is you will find complex life in them for two reasons: 1. The plan

It’s a fun project but the microscope is not the bottleneck in any place where you can do a research experiment.

Damn near every university microscope facility has a spinning disk confocal microscope that costs as much so yeah if it only costs half a mill instead of 10x itll be more widely available.

A comparison would be to a kitchenaid stand mixer. Once you’ve perfected a gadget best to stop there and not try and add useless value.

Formatting wise this is a very poorly made figure. I sincerely hope this is not the current standards for what’s considered to be a good journal nowadays.

If you’re a gadget head I’d implore you try and establish a good eBay routine. I find it cathartic to sell my old gadgets there. It’s not just that there’s money to be made but it’s guaranteed that someone gets a use out of your beloved gad

Every Tom Dick and Harry has done that course and the collective inability of most to still understand ML suggests that the course isn’t great after all.

I can't imagine a single person I've met in my life who would be as Zen as this bloke was as a kid. One wonders what engenders such quality in a person.

Is there anything in quantum fields that directly demand them to not be Lorentz invariant? I feel like these are independent hypotheses..

We looked for Gravitational lensing only after Einstein proposed his theory and wanted validation. No one wanted to actually put the effort to do the measurement during an eclipse and iirc Einstein had to lobby for it greatly and only a sin

Ive gone through the thread and dont see what supports your argument. The top comment quotes Einstein himself, but here’s his own final statement from that quote: > The new feature of it was the realization of the fact that the bearing o

The great insight IMO was special theory; the General Theory was I suppose a bit more obvious generalization that just needed the math to be figured out..

The Walter Issacson biography quoted Kip Thorne as saying if Einstein didn’t come up with relativity, likely no one would have for 30-40 years after. Which is insane and totally sensible. This theory had nothing to do with any observation o

Not that I’m agreeing with whatever was mentioned in the original comment, but as a semi outsider I feel we are indeed being disingenuous about this - what are quantum fields if not ether? I see no difference philosophically. Like the funda

There’s always a hoarde of people second guessing the 10x engineer. Of course it looks impossible to regular folks. I have seen a few people like this. They’re real. Sometimes it’s even worth the dysfunction they cause to see this in action
