> diamond vapor-phase deposition I've seen this repeated at a lot of places, but I'm quite sure this should be "diamond-like carbon" and not actual diamond deposition. Even then, I could not see any source for this, besides one blog com

Since C has been around 1972, it follows that a lot of software is going to be written in C. I agree with your conclusion but not your reasoning. Try substituting "Lisp" and "1958".

If you'll forgive a little nazism... please be careful with "your" and "you're". It gets distracting.

What's so fundamentally wrong with waiting a year or two to establish a family because you want to get a company started?

The iPhone 4 launch was popular. I agree. But how is this related to reception problems and Nokia's tongue-in-cheek post?

I would say it's important, although the base is of course also important by itself. People in general rarely understand how science really works. It's glaring in journalism where often an article takes some non-reviewed research and cites

You can say a lot of things about the guy, but I don't think you can call him incompetent without at least a little justification. I think the Dunning–Kruger effect/paper is one the most abusively reposted things on HN and Reddit.

Assuming it's on the same machine: perhaps they have an instrument which runs on Windows 95 and they do some light data processing, or use Matlab to make it interoperate with another device? We've had a similar need in my lab, although it w

What about language acquisition? I think it's quite established that ability goes down with age. My experience seeing retired people (with plenty of free time) taking language classes is that they take quite a bit more time to achieve the s

The allegations are factual in nature but are generally stated Minor thing, but could you clarify this statement? Do you mean "usually stated", or "stated in a general manner"? I'm unsure about the legal meaning of the words.

At my university every single lab/research group is named after the professor directing it. It's the standard in Japan. The name simply changes when a new professor joins or takes over. I find the practice a bit in bad taste, but it's not e

All employees are not developers, however. There are apparently 1400+ employees ( http://www.facebook.com/press/info.php?factsheet ), so that would make 1.1B / 1400 = $786k per employee of revenue. Here are some numbers to compare it to: h

I work in a physics lab. It would make a nice little controller to run some of the stuff we make. Eg.: for one of our microscopes it could display some parameters like the rotation speed or scan frequency (with eg. a PLL to measure frequenc

My point is that gamma/beta radiation is not "in the form of iodine". Iodine releases radiation; this radiation is the same, wherever it came from. Gamma and beta radiations can in fact be meaningfully compared on their effect on the body.
