Tail call optimization is not guaranteed for optimized C/C++ programs, and is not done at all in debug mode, so this kind of implementation can cause trouble with large structures. I used to have fun, too, implementing tail-recursive functi

You seem to be seriously confused on the meaning of "lexicon". The standard English lexicon is defined as the words and expressions a standard English speaker knows. If everybody understands "tweet", then it is part of the lexicon, and nobo

I've never had any problem with Qt or Boost smart pointers. They may be delicate to write, especially in multithreaded use cases, but once it's written it works rather well.

I've found the Visual Studio debugger to be very nice, actually. It shows STL classes in an intelligible way, and the IDE integration is (as expected) excellent. Unfortunately OSS alternatives are still a lot less intuitive, and VS is stuck

I do see your point and I found it interesting (I've had to optimize filters in the past and used the same process of coding C and looking at the assembly), but how can "beating the compiler" be interpreted as anything but writing better co

Starts by saying how it's a huge myth that compilers generate better code than hand-made assembly... and ends with compiler-generated code, the author basically saying "I think I could do better". It was interesting to see what the compiler

I've heard things like 仕事と生活のバランス. But it's true that the concept sounds rather alien. Most of my co-workers at the lab eat, socialize, sleep (I see people sleeping at their desk regularly), etc. at the workplace, and they go out as a group

Amusing comment, but I don't really understand why Flash has this reputation of crashing. I don't remember seeing it crash my browser, at least in a very long time. Why is there a "flash is crap" meme? Is it because it's unstable on Linux?
