I'd be very interested to hear others views on the CPS or closures style. Myself, I think it's flawed for the reasons given in my other post but I may be missing something and if so would like to know what. Else it seems an elegant but im

Thanks for the explanation. We draw the line at paying transaction fees out of our own pockets, that's all. Oh, quite right. I wasn't expecting you to, that's why I wondered how these costs got covered. I like the idea of the tip recipi

How do you take payment from me when you come calling asking me to cover my tip pledges? Say it's Visa. They charge for that so how do you cover your costs? I like the idea of asking the content authors to tip you in turn when you pass t

The "give us your email address to hear future news" form isn't working. There's no response from dreamhost as at 2007-05-26 13:12:48 +0100. Can you let us know when it's back?

First off, I like the elegancy of the CPS approach, however... The continuation-passing approach doesn't scale. Not only to multiple machines, as papersmith points out, but on a single machine. news.yc has (had?) problems with a theoretic

Personally, I put these lines in my ~/.inputrc. It allows the vi key-bindings to still work but a few of the non-vi ones can leak through. set keymap vi-insert C-p: previous-history C-n: next-history C-b: backward-char C-f: forward-char C-

Is the order of comments stable? Sometimes it seems they change without the number of points altering. A stable ordering would be good.

That's a pretty pessimistic view of code copying. There's real-world experience for you. I don't know why there'd inherently be bugs in a decently simple chunk of code. There's often bugs, especially if the language or API is unwieldy

Anyway, as Java's such a popular language, you can get away with copying other people's 100 lines if you really need to. A quick Google search turned up an image scaler outright. You'd be copying its bugs too. And you wouldn't pick up an

The OP explanatory comment has drifted down the page by now. This feature request would be useful to stop this. http://news.ycombinator.com/comments?id=1149

Adding a comment doesn't work because it can easily drift down the page. There needs to be a way to supply an initial comment with a URL that remains tied to it at the top of the page. It doesn't need to be votable.

I still think the site should allow a comment with the URL otherwise, with popular threads, the initial explanatory comment can be pushed down into obscurity. http://news.ycombinator.com/comments?id=1149

Thanks. It would be nice if the site allowed comments to be submitted along with a URL so that readers know what they're meant to get from the article.

Be like Google and don't cache rich media in the proxy, just text/html, etc. An upstream proxy can be a full caching one, e.g. like Squid, perhaps the one at their ISP.

Perhaps you could clarify something that's puzzled me. I thought when I first heard about it, the phrase was "Do no evil". Then "Don't be evil" became more prevalent. Was there ever a switch, or was it just mis-reported initially?
