And miss all the fun hacking a custom solution? ;-) At least USB also works on a laptop, which is easier to put next to the console in the living room.

setproctitle() is only for the current process. It is a system-specific interface implemented in libc (in OpenBSD/FreeBSD a sysctl() to set the memory address where the string is stored). ps(1) examines other processes and again uses a

I don't think electronic gadgets are a good item for this comparison. You might want to take a look at the Big Mac Index, which tries to give some measurement of how much your money is worth in another currency or country.

Especially for GitHub, I don't want to iteratively push commit after commit to README.md just to get the correct syntax for their GitHub-Flavored-Markdown. When editing on GitHub directly, I appreciate the preview to spot mistakes. How

At first I was a bit puzzled why anyone would need to describe an editor as "secure"... but oh well, it is actually a web application. I can see the need now.

What makes you think GPLv3 would forbid something like Apple's SIP? Which clause are you referring to?

Yes. It uses the tools from the location currently selected as the active developer directory (via xcode-select).

Isn't this the perfect setting where an attacker will ask you to replace this binary with a custom binary with an additional backdoor? In the best case the attacker would fake an email that looks like it came from your IT department. E

Not having a git tag for your release would be bad style. Actually, releases should always be tagged in order to make them reproducible. Everyone should be able to see what is in a release. Releasing software properly means that you actuall

"Make sure you run Foo 1.7, Bar 2.1, Baz 2.3, ..." "Make sure you update to OpenSSL 1.2e and restart all services." If you think of more than one program using the same module, shared libraries make a lot of sense.
