Reputation is about perception. Both can be seen as bad, but but one can still be worse than the other.

Oh, in this case indeed. In my hometown you can still find weathered down stickers over a decade old opposing fracking.

> Putin-funded "environmentalists" Any evidence for that? I think a lot of people would not like fracking in their back yards, regardless of being "Putin-funded". Just regular garden variety NIMBY-ism

Same. I've only ever been a user in Blender and it pushed me to use Python as my first programming language since I could script Blender with it. IIRC, I first started using it with version 2.32 when I was an early teen. I still have

Since you tried it, you now have now developed some skills to be able to raise some vegetables if you're in a real pickle (ha!). Maybe that is the most valuable thing from such a garden: not being totally helpless if the need does aris

Really random thought: the tax you pay on profit is proportional (or even 1:1) to your market share. Become a monopoly? 100% of your profit is now taxed. Nicer to stay at eg. 25% and have competition. Maybe ramp it exponentially (yes, I kno

Back in the days when something like A* was invented, I' fairly sure it was called AI. Now it's just another algorithm. So indeed, we don't call those 'AI" anymore . The bar has significantly shifted and does so e

Once a computer can do something, it no longer called AI but just an algorithm. At least, that used to be the case before the current AI summer and hype.

There's Stoke, Relativity, Rocketlab, Firefly, Ursa Major and a whole bunch more companies (many of which I forgot to mention, sorry) that are trying to come after SpaceX. Now that SpaceX has shown reuse is possible, it's easier t

Hedy is great for learning programming to kids. I tried this a while ago with my scout group, I expected them to take a while per lesson, but they flew through the lessons in no time, drawing all sorts of patterns and making little games

T-0 keeps getting pushed back. Nice for them to have this ability technically. Not all rockets can do this AFAIK, at least not as often as I've seen today. Anyone know how often can do this, or what the technical limit it for this (so

Facts aren't democratic. One scientist can't possibly democratically verify facts if there are a hundred crazy family uncles and aunts not liking/denying their facts or simply feeling different.

I was making a joke though. Also, if you bounce the signal off a mirror on the wall like DIY Perks did, then walls vibrating even a little bit will be an issue if the beam is narrow enough.

Then the audio drops out, so it's a self-correcting problem! Also, the beam is a bit divergent, even if it vibrates the beam could still cover the sensor.

I think the obscurity is more due to the fact that reaching it with sufficient signal strength requires a big, big dish with a big, big amplifier.

But: where do you start with those after a blackout (which I assume is pretty possible in a scenario where the grid is under attack). How do you sync them all in that case? Can maybe be done via GPS timing, but hard to get that coordination

Can be done up to some level, but you still need a stable source of ~50Hz frequency to keep everything synced.
