No, they totally succeeded because the used php. I think zuckerberg said it himself that php allowed them to add new features easily. I think he mentioned that it was easy for new people to pick it up. I’m pretty sure Facebook wouldn’t exis

This is Apple though. It is very likely that this will be a successful product. How many windows mobile/Symbian devs were burned before the iPhone came out? If you can, you should totally give it a shot.

Crossing fingers for this to take off. There’s a lot of potential applications for a device like this.

Why not? Isn’t there a legal precedence from google using java in android (or was it another company?)

Would mid-journey be liable though? I mean you can create copyrighted material using photoshop too. (Even paint!). If I create a Mickey Mouse using photoshop would adobe be liable for it?

This should be the solution. If they’re trials for an unproven solution, why should they pay anything at all. I’m any case, it should be the other way around; it’s the companies who should pay the person for subjecting them to something ver

“ But by that logic, if the language they had been most familiar with was Fortran, should they have used Fortran for Facebook” Absolutely. Otherwise they wouldn’t have been able to release the actual product and keep adding features to it t

When you have half a billion users that both read and write all day, you have to optimize, no matter the tech.

They succeeded because of php. It was easy to use for them. So it enabled them to materialize their ideas. It was the right tool for them. Anything else would have been fine either way, if it was the language they were the most comfortable

Learn what? That you should use the language that you’re more comfortable with and then scale? Or that languages have become more efficient? Php 8, for example, is many times faster than the php 4 and 5 that Facebook was using.

There’s no way reddit has anywhere near a billion users. It has millions. Facebook is ubiquitous, pretty much anyone from any age, gender and a country has heard of Facebook. Reddit is a big site, but it’s still a niche site when compared t

Um, just a thought. Shouldn’t people be posting these things outside of reddit? The admins can always take down posts like this.

I know spam is a ver big deal, but that wasn’t my experience. I wasn’t around in the 90s so I don’t know what it used to be like. But just a little over half a decade ago the blogs I used to visit still had people interacting with each othe

Yes. The mob mentality is an issue on reddit and has made me refrain from giving my honest opinion on a lot of topics because of the fear of being downvoted to hell. I think an upvote or like only system like Facebook or twitter would be mu

The trend that I hate the most is blogs without comments. I don’t know when it started, but a few years ago I suddenly noticed most blogs started to turn off their comments section one by one. I don’t know why they’d do that. Interacting wi

Of course you as a user don’t care that is profitable. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m not picking sides, but if you were the ceo/owner, you’d probably care about its profitability. If you were the owner of such a big site, wouldn’t yo
