Taxation is coercion. Higher taxation is higher coercion. With that being said, the US already spends more on public healthcare than Canada does, so the problem is a lot more complex than where should the money come from.

Not sure there is causation there. A lot of factors contributed to the decrease in illness and injury, including the jobs themselves, a lot of the dangerous ones either got outsourced or died out.
