This feels like the japanification of the whole western world plus China. I don't even follow the valuations of the stock markets, I've been told they are high, but for tech I'm sure they are nowhere near those of 1998, so I

"It is not yet known what caused the ship, which was bound for Saudi Arabia, to capsize" The romanian newspapers initially reported that the sheep were simply not loaded on both sides of the ship.

The author said on /r/space that was the case -- this was a binary system with the stars orbiting very close to eachother.

The author of the paper was active on reddit and he said the only way to explain this is that there were initially two stars orbiting in very close proximity and there could not have been any planets to begin with.

Amen to treating symptoms! I feel like I've wasted years and a lot of money with psychotherapists who insist on bullshit root causes. Treating symptoms allows you to break the problem into smaller issues, monitor progress, change cours

I'm supposed to use a document template my therapist emailed me, most likely I will search for an app that does the same (too paranoid about printing and filling a document about my mood) -- so I don't track it yet. I was diagnos

It doesn't, that's why not everybody has that gene; if Alzheimers was something you developed as a teen, I'm sure that mutation would spread and soon everybody would have it. Maybe we could use that gene in the future on pati

Could someone use CRISPR to inject two copies of APOE3ch in regular Akzheimer's patiens? Sorry if this sounds silly, I have just a very rough understanding of genetics.

Yeah, I guess with very thin shades reflection is the only way, maybe if those were thicker and good heat conductors, you could shape them like very wide triangles and radiate the heat just a couple of degrees to the side, still protecting

Actually, you are right, I was talking as if the shades are just orbiting the Sun. L1 orbits do require station keeping. Perhaps you could cheat a bit by making the shades black or oscilating/slanting them a bit forward/rearwards

But I think our energy consumption is miniscule on the scale of energy received from the Sun. I did the math once, and a square of 300x300km of solar panels in the Sahara would cover all the world electricity demands. The issue is with gree

That would be true for the wrong type of knowledge also -- politics, manipulation, power accumulation and so on. If you think the 0.5% are bad enough now, wait until they can live to 500.
