Thanks for the book recommendation! I’m interested in making the same transition. Can I ask what you did to be considered for a role in ML coming from a software engineering background? Did you showcase any personal projects in your resume?

I’m not aware of any definition of accident that says personal injuries have to occur. But sure, you can replace accident here with collision or contact events. Also, airbag deployment doesn’t automatically mean there are injuries either. P

Probably. But I don’t think many were expecting Meta to dominate this space because it was always obvious that they don’t have a multi-device ecosystem like Apple does.

On the contrary, they might expand Meta's market by giving "legitimacy" to AR/VR headsets. Not everyone will want to buy a $3500 Apple headset, but might try out a cheaper Meta Quest.

Lidar works up to 300 meters. That’s plenty for highway driving. Everyone using lidar also use multiple cameras so they are getting best of both worlds (using sensor fusion).

Using LiDAR means you are actually saving on compute resources since you're now getting direct distance measurements instead of inferring using ML.

There are people taking rides in rain and fog, albeit only in SF and Phoenix. You can claim they haven’t put any effort into weather driving all you want, but the evidence suggests otherwise.

Good point. That would also allow them to bring true Level 4 autonomous driving to passenger cars with sufficient miniaturization of their sensor stack.

I could relate to this so much as someone who lost his AirPods a couple of weeks ago. Instead of a museum, it was an unsuccessful search through Walmart for me. Find My app now says it’s in Germany.
