By not doing enough to increase network throughput. We could have had a 2-8MB fork years ago and not had to worry with the transaction backlogs caused by the 1MB block limit we're now stuck with.

My mistake, I was under the impression Segwit2x was approved by Core. I still think this is a good thing. The Bitcoin Core developers have restricted the Bitcoin network for too long. Perhaps this will serve as a wake up call. Personally I

Not really sure I follow your argument. Bitcoin Core has wanted to push Segwit and the miners agreed to it as long as a 2MB hardfork was also forthcoming. The 2MB adjustment is all part of the plan. Segwit has locked in, which while being a

Very interesting. Cloudflare have always positioned themselves as a neutral network provider and have not policed the content they serve. Many not so nice parts of the web such as DDoS-for-hire sites are protected by Cloudflare - I wonder i

That looks more like you're getting raw gzip content - perhaps your proxy is messing with the Accept-Encoding headers or trying to ungzip content for inspection and somehow messing it up.

It's not just about hosts. In developing countries, old generation mobile phones running Android 4.x are extremely common. Google's own metrics show 26% of Android phones are pre-5.0, and that's without the unknown number tha

This doesn't seem to do any actual updating, it just tells the client the download URL of the latest github release.

As far as I understand it the cache is a server-side thing, so the update server is polling github every 15 minutes, not the Electron app.

Regardless of the risk of seizure from law enforcement, I feel you should fully encrypt any remotely hosted servers. There are plenty of examples of datacenter techs being socially engineered to install backdoors, affecting both colo and de

There are a bunch of WebRTC file transfer web apps but they unfortunately all suffer from the legacy cruft that WebRTC brought along. The only data channels are UDP and things like STUN / TURN / ICE are needed to have any hope of

I've been thinking about creating a Dutch foundation for one of the open source projects I work on in order to provide a legal entity to collect donations and apply for services like code signing in a organization name. This makes it a

I hate how prevalent Killer NIC chips have become. They seem to be racing to the bottom with cheap wireless and ethernet PHYs with crappy drivers, yet their reputation hasn't quite caught up. Their marketing brands them as premium and

I'm waiting for scaling to be fixed. Only then will daily use cases become relevant again. It's hard to sell a merchant on a payment method that can take hours to confirm.

I feel the exact same way. I run a 45M pv/mo network on a single dedicated box. The cost of our bandwidth alone at any cloud provider costs multiples of what we are paying for our current server. The cloud just doesn't make econom

Seems like the root cause here is the drive sync app is 32 bit and thus running into the 2GB memory limit. I wonder if it's built with LARGEADDRESSAWARE? Otherwise you could hex edit that into the PE header and get double the usable ad

You may want to consider hosting your CSS locally. For whatever reason, the cdnjs CSS took around 4 seconds to load for me, during which time your site was a white page. The rest of the site loaded fine.
