I do agree that we might live peacefully with AIs because they need different things. Two points: We still compete for space and energy at the very least. Humans are sympathetic to animals because we are alike. We don’t want animals to suff

Is there a difference between evil and indifferent if you are on the receiving end? Humanity is largely indifferent to animal welfare and animals would qualify it as evil how we treat them.

I like the arrow semantics: Dashed with line tip is „depends on“. Straight with triangle tip is „inherits from“. Standardizing them is useful.

What is a pain is „joining a remote community nobody on your instance has joined so far“. For the usual cases the normal UI should work fine.

Federation makes it easier for users to join. If you don’t need that, there are plenty self-hosted alternatives. For example, HN itself.

https://join-lemmy.org/ Lemmy is a federated Reddit clone. It already works and is available. As far as I know currently the best alternative. Please, join a smaller instance currently. The biggest ones are already overload

Currently it surely cannot handle the scale of Reddit. They do „tens of thousands“ now and will have to discover the bottlenecks for „hundreds of thousands“ first. Anyways, maybe this gives Lemmy a boost towards the next level.

Apple squeezes profits from their suppliers very aggressively. They operate very similar to the automotive industry there. Even more aggressive probably because they have a larger market share than any car OEM.
