I have adopted one convention: If I need to act on something later, I put a box to its left. Once I acted on it, I tick it off with a checkmark. For example, during I a meeting I realize a problem in our software which is unrelated to the a

While I generally agree with your point, D/Walter Bright slightly disagrees with the sentiment. One constraint for D is "must not require data flow analysis" because that incurs a cost on compilation time. Afaik this was most

I would rather have a formal spec as the definitive one. Deriving a formal spec from a readable one seems to hit ambiguous cases all the time. Just look at publications that do that for C or Java. With a formal spec you could also derive an

I believe C would be a good example for negative space. The spirit of C [0] explicitly contains "keep the language small and simple". [0] http://beza1e1.tuxen.de/articles/spirit_of_c.html

Is it cause or effect though? The actual reason could be that your business model is not sustainable. Eventually you will then be pressured into ever more desperate ways to get income. Inevitably that will include ads on the web.

The more interesting question with git statistics is what they are actually useful for. Tools like this seem to be guided by which data is available and easy to extract. What is commits per hour useful for? Sometimes these metrics are usefu

I believe the key aspect is independence. Can you solve a problem independently from other problems. If you can implement a new feature within your team, it is not wicked. If you need a few other teams it becomes political and thus wicked.

It depends on the language. In C it is not a branch because division by zero is undefined and not a path you consider. In Java you can argue that there are two branches. One branch that throws an exception and one that does not.

I equate startup but downsides like longer hours, less salary, higher pressure. That is ok for a few years but not sustainable. If you are still working like that after 18 years, I would consider that a commercial failure.

More evidence that graphviz needs a successor or makeover. Some force-based post-processing with the additional goal of rectangular borders would be good. Also some tweaks like little arcs where lines cross and shadows for boxes.

I agree with you. It feels natural for lexer/parser generators for example (Yacc, Bison, AntLR, etc). Also for FFI bindings. On the other hand, for the little things it would be weird. Would you do that for a single regular expression?
