It appears to be difficult to isolate the people who give a shit from the people who are good at pretending to give a shit these days.

Erm we did. Nothing happened. They didn't even send anyone out. That was pretty usual for the local police back then. Hell I was threatened with a knife by my neighbour in 2005 and got a letter two days later from the police apologisin

Yeah I used to work for a large retailer here in the UK when I was a student. That was far worse than any stories about amazon. My manager used to lock the toilets so we couldn’t go and forced us to break H&S regs by carrying shelves fu

Having an orchestra would have been cool. The company I worked for in 2000 had a smoking club and ham radio club. Same members in both. Hmm.

I think we need to replace that one with "Enterprise software is shit" these days.

I'm not the original author but I use a mini as a desktop with one of these: https://www.chriscollins.me/notes/durgod-taurus-k320-mechani... That has a correct keyboard.

Even as a miserable pessimist I just bought an M1 Mini today. It cost two months of train season tickets which I don’t have to pay for any more!

A friend of mine in Watford had some Wanksy art done in his street and they cleaned off the art and left the pot hole there another year...

Yeah that was a shitty approach. Stuck at same sort of place. I did an order of magnitude more commits than my peers last year. I had to explain that it's because commits are cheap which makes experiments and rollbacks easy, not that I

At least you can git squash all your slacking into one commit and merge.

Yeah I have actually bought one. But I'm comparatively well off.

It's even worse than that from experience. Most of these financial institutions had terrible practices before and the surface area of their terrible practices is huge and mostly unknown. So when they go and apply some new super secure

I don't think this will increase market share at all. Most people don't want to pay that much money for a computer. That includes individuals, small businesses and corporates.

Got to be honest. After using them all, Microsoft's cloud office solution is the least crap. It's the one thing I miss moving to Linux.

You win some you lose some. My 2018 MBA had to go back and ended up being returned permanently. I’m considering risking it again on an M1 MBA though.

There’s a lot of that out there. I have avoided COBOL but I have seen stuff written in VB6/COM which was also in the same state. Eventually the one guy who knows anything about it leaves or dies. In the name of “progress” someone wraps

But is it fun? A lot of modern games miss the fun bit. GTA V is the only modern game I’ve played which appears to have kept the fun bit intact.

I don’t. If I work from home for 15 years then I gain 1 entire year back of my life from not having to commute. Also no one can tap me on the shoulder :)

Not sure why you’re downvoted. The Pi boards are terrible and the majority of the market objective appears to be trying to undercut them. Commercial embedded stuff is better but not without warts. A former colleague of mine sent me a rant a
