It doesn’t need a business model. Most good open source exists out of necessity. A lot of this stuff transcends necessity and is about convincing people it is necessary.

It's even worse. Half the "open source" projects are mixed license these days. All the useful and interesting bits are paid up extras which involve navigating half assed vendors with sales teams that don't even understan

I’m sure that is caveated on some people and for some conditions . I’d expect a better standard and more research to be defined here or we’ll end up with another paroxetine mess on our hands. I lost a decade of my life to cleaning up aft

Nailed it. A lot of the "I did this and it had great effects" are compounded with "I did this and it ruined my life" and a bit of "I did this and it ruined my life and everyone around me" . I suspect the h

Yes. I got dragged on one by my parents in the 1980s. I wanted to kill myself after about a day. It was like butlins with no escape and even lower standards of hygiene. It’s a profitable captive market to milk a load of people drowning thei

Not that well known in some circles. I decided this year to lose some weight and only worked out the mechanics of it after researching throughly. It never factored into my education or general knowledge. It was demotivating to be honest kno

Same taste outcome here. Coffee and Coke Zero became very disappointing. I was swabbed and confirmed diagnosed with it. It really did me in and I’m not sure I completely recovered form it yet. Took me 3 months after it was over to be able t

Try dumping UDP packets from the host to the WSL machine...

This was fairly normal at Microsoft for years. Even the first .net framework (rotor) used Perl as a build system and worked on Unix systems.

I’m using a Lenovo Thinkpad T495s at the moment as a laptop. The screen isn’t retina grade but it’s cheap and it works perfectly and the keyboard is excellent.

It’s a shit show. Can’t trace packets either via wireshark on the host and tcpdump doesn’t work on the guest. I’ve gone back to virtualbox and eviscerated WSL. Another total waste of my life.

Ignore the downvotes. You are right. I jumped ship recently because of endless problems. The last straw was the 2 week old magic keyboard that the space bar failed on. I’ve had three failed MacBooks in recent years to the point I stopped bu

This is the point at which a product goes from done to overdone . The point something becomes overdone is the point at which usability declines and cost increases. Nice knowing you Lenovo.

I ran a thinkpad T61 as a server for a bit. It’s a decent solution and yes it has a built in UPS :) Really these big clusters rarely need to be run 24/7 so it’s more economical to run one node doing stuff that has to be on all the time
