100% Tried management for a few years, dealing with the prima donnas and the deadweight on the team burned me out. Wasn’t getting paid more than I was as an IC, so it was not worth it for me by a long shot. As an IC I just have my own probl

As a suburban homeowner/parent, house prices have little bearing for me. I hope to live in my house for decades, so the sell price in the distant future doesn’t matter. It’s the “quiet and peaceful” part that I care about. West coast c

Yeah what the other guy said. Keeping my toddler's room humidified at night uses several gallons of water per week, which would be pretty annoying to have to manage over time. Boiling tap water really shouldn't have any health ris

I was noticing my air quality monitor showing awful AQI after running an ultrasonic cool mist humidifier. Turns out it's the minerals in tap water atomizing into fine dust in the air. I don't know how harmful it actually is but I

I also didn’t know what the answer was for a long time. I count myself lucky that I lucked into the path that led to the best outcome for me once I did figure it out. Relentlessly pursued money for the first decade and a half of my career.

I use cloud storage to store the kdbx file and sync it across a PC and my phone. It’s pretty awesome 99% of the time and just works. Once in a while you get a merge conflict and it’s not so good.

That's sad and somewhat surprising to me, as someone in a similar situation. Pretty much all of my friends are also in FAANG and all of them either completely sympathize or are also actively working on their early retirement goals. My

I debated really hard between trading in my Y for an X so I could have a bigger car for my growing family. Decided to keep the Y because the X just didn't add enough space to make it worthwhile. Not to mention the unnecessary doors (ro

What’s your conclusion? It’s hard for me to make generalizations. The ones who work at my high end FAANG company are all hard-working and driven. But they’re the cream of the crop.
