Dive in, don't worry about perfect. Learn how to do each new thing you have to do. Incremental progress snowballs. Work on things you're bad at. The hack is that you can log more hours per day than everyone else to go faster. Ther

I glanced at it and it reminds me of my grandmother's system. She was born in 1918 and went to college in her mid-30s. Very bright. Anyway, she took her lecture notes in shorthand. Shorthand is very fast, so she took down every word. S

How good were you at your profession when you got your bachelor's? How good were your "average" classmates? I can teach my (hypothetical) child better than the "average" teaching-degree graduate. You're selling

I taught PE for homeschool kids when I was a young man, at a YMCA. It was a small program we ran during some seasons. I'd get 6-15 kids every week for about an hour, and since it was daytime, we could use any facilities we wanted, so w

You can say it until you're blue in the face, point out how obviously true it is, and they can't see it. They'll invent excuses why you're wrong. What are you working on?

Everything I've read says that you're right in theory, but in practice, rust rewrites tend to outperform. At Mozilla's level, though, I wouldn't necessarily expect that to hold water. They should be able to write great c

I've been getting these but I hadn't figured out what to blame yet. I imagined it was one tab doing something bad. I'll have to pay attention now to if it's happening on all my machines. it for sure happened on a Windows

This parallels my progression: I made my first site with frames. I made my next with static headers and the 8 million files to update (some programs in that day did this automatically). Then I learned about server-side includes, and did tha

I carry around a thinkpad when I might need to use a keyboard. It gets like 11 hours battery life even with Linux. It's a 14-inch screen I think, and I find it a good compromise. I'm a terminal nerd anyway

It's not failing. I know that's a trope (1000 filaments that don't work)...but it really is the difference in you and them. Their mindset is not that they have failed, at any point. They are poking and probing and analyzing a

I bought one like this on Amazon. Dial for power, dial for time, one ding. I forget how many watts, I think 800 or 1k. The dials feel cheap, but it's fine. I was tired of pushing buttons and setting clocks. I don't want everything
