Yup. But the beacon packets have been designed to be extremely efficient and the finder protocol your device would occasionally use is super lightweight.

The "11:11 on the clock" story has also been repeated by millions of people for decades. That many people fall prey to a cognitive bias does not make it any less of a bias.

Paradoxically, that backfires. If we only let a small subset of users disable WebGL... well, having WebGL disabled _becomes_ the identifying characteristic.

I don't know that it's accurate to describe beheadings and child porn as "real human nature". The scum of nature, perhaps.

This isn’t a “thought crime”, it’s just painfully unfunny and doesn’t belong in a discussion between mature adults.

Weird, I can’t reproduce that at all. Swiping between desktops is just as (if not more responsive than) Catalina. What is your model?

I may be wrong, but I don't think the iOS sandbox allows apps to poke around that much.

What? This has most definitely been happening on Android for almost a decade. That app ecosystem is a mess.

I’ve used TikTok, and the way its algorithm made me feel is unparalleled. It’s truly something else. I’m not sure how it does it, but it’s one of the only apps where one truly feels they have a live being behind the screen watching and twea

Unfortunately, it's easy for governments to criminalise owning Starlink terminal equipment. Also, Starlink may be legally forced to deny service to users in certain geographical regions.

That’s different. That would just ask you to confirm again if the app prompts. The iOS counterpart blocks location requests quietly when the app is in the background and allows them when the app is in the foreground.
