Not strictly true; states that have nuclear weapons are capable of destroying other states, but not necessarily invading, repurposing, and ruling them to the point that their own legal and governmental system is subsumed by the other.

It is most certainly not true of every state; if no one recognizes your claims, but you can still feed your citizens and defend your borders, you are "a state".

That is precisely my position. It is a scam; producing very little value that didn't already exist for Americans while enriching the owners of the 401(k) portfolios beyond nearly anyone in history.

Despite the fact that racial proportions match up fairly well with the population, I still have a very hard time believing that personal politics and intelligence/education levels match up with the population as well.

What about based on internal beliefs and voting patterns? A "police" administrator at the city level is liable to donate a lot more money than a rural patrolman.

I find that bullies can be found in equal proportions in both parties, but I do agree that the type of bully who is willing to walk the street with a gun in the name of justice does have a more welcoming home in one major party than the oth

This is obvious to me, but it seems to be lost on many people who want to change how police work is done. It's like saying that chefs ought to be responsible for punishing each other when they spit in people's food.

There are plenty; I think the campfire model is the one that allows you to hold the expectation that friends may go out of your life and not come back, which is a reality of growing older. If you don't expect that to happen, it hurts.

The best model for friendship I've heard as an adult is the "campfire model". It was explained in a Reddit comment that I can't find these days, but I will paraphrase below: "I treat all of my friends as if I'm

Concur; for most of human history, societies have been governed by warlords. There are multiple sub-societies in the United States itself governed by gangs and warlords. Democracy and rule of law is the exception, not the rule.
