But then he'd have to use a mac. He may have existing legacy software that he needs to run, or may simply dislike the mac UX (I for one can't stand it, although I like some of the underlying tech). Besides, I'm finding it increasingly moral

I don't use macs because I have yet to see one with a nipple mouse/TrackPoint. The hardware uniformity has upsides and downsides.

Maybe it wasn't clear that the cheaper option had more crap on it. All that Free Market/vote with your dollars stuff only works in the case of well-informed consumers, and we all know that when it comes to computers, most consumers are not.

Cache validation, on the other hand, can be quite expensive. The context switch itself of course less so.

It wasn't really a helpful contribution to the discussion, and was likely downvoted on form as much as as on content. Asking for more information about this sort of thing is good and important, but all caps and excessive exclamation marks a

Well, the workarounds seem to be mostly for people using unsupported distros or (more commonly) installing it despite not being in the closed beta.

Both gitk and the cli are representations of the graph. Granted, gitk may be a more useful/comprehensive overview than say git log but still.

I generally use the -j option to tar primarily because it's less typing. I think the ideal option is for these flags to be provided, but implemented using pipes under the hood so tar -cj folder is just syntactic sugar for tar -c | bzip2

For what it's worth, I have a Motorola smartphone, and I certainly wouldn't trade it in for an iPhone. The point I'm trying to make is that that the prediction is correct assuming "people" refers mostly to the people making the predictions.

So zsh doesn't know what -f means? Having said that, it'd be nice if there were an inbetween flag. "Yes, delete .git dirs >:|"

What do you do if you want to commit a half-finished feature? Do you only commit in very large-grained chunks?

Or maybe he's asking why avolcano finds achievements to be the most exciting thing. It didn't seem that rude to me, but then again, I'm a bit oblivious to such things -- I tend to favour the nicest possible interpretation.

The downside of ^c is that it doesn't trigger an InsertLeave event or abbreviations. Which can be a pain, or exactly what you want, depending on the occasion.

I don't think cheap and light are fair points there. Sure, it could be worse, but no helmet is definitely cheaper and lighter than a helmet. (aside from possible medical bills, but I feel that's covered under the 'keeps you safe' point).

I keep a personal wiki too. If anyone's interested, I wrote a (very small) vim plugin so that I can use an environment I'm already accustomed to. (It just automatically turns WikiWords into links) https://github.com/Qu4Z/wwvim It's probab

The point he's making is this: If you put in <x> effort into HTML5 you'll have a slow, shitty version. If you put in <x+y> you'll have a nice fast version. If you put in <x> effort with a native app, you have nothing
