Well, I'm only 23 so any code I wrote ten years ago was hopelessly simple by comparison to what I'm writing today. But to answer your question: In general I found it over-commented, but it was simple enough that I could ignore the comments

I quite liked the previous article we had "Comments are apologies" or something. HN seemed to rail against it overall, but it makes sense to me. It's sort of "Sorry, but this has to be this way because API <x> does thing <y>

This is quite cool. I've been meaning to switch to a console mail client for a while. (although personally I'd lean towards a CLI rather than a TUI)

> it has weak keys, not weak values. Wow. That does seem backwards. What's the use-case for that sort of thing?

It's worth knowing that things you do are irrevocable. And often more public than you think.

I certainly did. I was almost tempted to go :) EDIT: Maybe we should organise one. I'm not really sure what we'd do there, though. I don't usually go to conferences.

I think the problem with UDP is all the people who think that NAT is a perfectly valid firewall/use case and not a hack.

It's hard to be open about that sort of thing with your friends. Maybe it'd be better to have it be anonymous, so that at least you'd see that other people have these burdens too, and you can vent without repercussions from work/people with

Fairly likely the poster got it via RSS, so we're all reading it through RSS indirectly.

The entire site seems to have that tagline through it as a running joke. I also thoroughly enjoy it. "Watch out, Netscape Navigator 4.0!" and so on.

I'm pretty sure you're allowed to say "classy" if you're talking about fake moustaches and top-hats, a la reddit. That's firmly tongue-in-cheek though. Also, replying to GP, I'm pretty sure swearing is less "low-class" and more "not middle-

Hah. Cheers for this. I was going to comment about this book, but then I realised that I didn't remember what it was called, or when I'd read it, or any actual details, and didn't actually have enough content for a comment. It's a good book

I've always thought of the term "f-bomb" as being the domain of mothers and housewives who are uncomfortable saying fuck. Am I wrong? Is it more common in America? Also to me it always seemed less descriptive and more an attempt to link the

While that's neat, I feel like the kind of developer who makes a fullscreen pop-up ad for their app every time you visit the site simply doesn't care enough to do this thing. Unrelatedly, I feel like I saw a presentation about security flaw

Scrolling back and forth to read each line sounds pretty broken to me. On the desktop, if I had something open in a small window I'd probably pull out Firebug and "fix" the css. Personally I'm a believer in the original scheme where the sit
