I can't imagine being fragile enough that swearing in the Internet is like a major negative experience. I've read more erlang than most of the elixir fanclub hackers will ever read or write. (granted elixir is a bit more terse, w&

But that's a very similar mode of thinking, don't you agree? I mean, I think so anyways. Idk anything hardly when it comes to hardware but I can use my imagination. Do you think like barbers or chefs or fisherman have the same dri

Isn't that an obvious thing though? Hell, I was reading the source code to moonscript (compiles to lua) the other day, and you'd be shocked how intelligent some of the components are! Even for such a simple little language. I also

If the people who prosecute you are the people who report the dna, whose to say they don't just say that it matched when it really didn't? Fakable media needs to be decentralized, period. Edit: not parent commenter, btw, just my p

Great example, that's along the lines of the kind of weird rhetoric politics is known for. Iraq is an entire country! Thousands of villages, micro and macroeconomic activity, relationships with several dozen other countries! It's

Reason has always decried impulsiveness! Democracy seems appealing if you're insecure and/or naive enough to think that the next guy probably knows better and you're willing to rely on that as a rule. The real world is many o

I listen to old french house classics. It's an odd choice and occasionally the lyrics or samples distract me, but I figure the potential for distraction is always there and I'd rather be yanked from concentration into my most plea

I'm a jaded engineer, there's a difference. If all the software bugs in the world disappeared tonight, I'd be out of a job tomorrow morning but I'd have one hell of a good morning. The world sucks. I don't choose to

Could it be trillions in debts? Could it be they are aligned with developing countries all over the world with belt and road? Could it be that they have arguably the single most intelligent population in the world? Could it be that though A

That took a moment to parse, but what a neat observation. I've always admired apple from afar. I wish they cared More about lower rung use cases. If apple came out with something to compete with chromebooks, maybe $500-600 range, I

Whoa, elixir is not even remotely widely used. Again, strong signs on HN-itis. A few silicon valley corps experiment with it, maybe a couple major players have a service built with it. But in terms of actual mind share in the webdev sphere,

I started for the glory. Refurbishing keygens and writing ddos perl scripts for irssi. But the more I learned, the bigger the problems I want to solve, (and create, in some cases) and that drove me to become more dedicated to the discipline

Have you played wario land 4? WL4 is my favorite hand-held platformer of all time. Love that game! I've played 3 too, but it just didn't get me.

Most hackers worth a shit know the answer to the question without even any context. It's like a lust to solve a problem. Idk maybe it IS add, I'm there too, but sometimes there are software problems that just completely captivate

Just because you read it in a HN comment doesn't mean it works in the real world. It has to deal with lots of third party interfaces, websockets, webhooks, etc. Erlang is notoriously bad for modern web stuff, with elixir making the eco

This was fascinating. Can you recommend any good books about genetics and natural selection to people who don't have a biology background? I can handle some math, but I just break software for a living and I don't know biology. So

Following your logic there, I would be able to pay 5,001 on a 10,000 car and be able to lay claim to it. Lending finance is a bit more ethereal than that, in practice.

You don't really think that, you're just being adversarial here. Heroku is not even a part of the equation of whether or not he's responsible for oss that he authored. No matter where he worked or any of that. It's not h

So a decision heroku makes is something he has to be accountable for? He was a developer, he didn't run the joint. It was OSS before that. That's their problem, tbh.

Supply chains take time to stabilize. Understand, I am in no way defending amazon, i hope it all burns, but in the interest of fairness I must say that six months is too short a time to evaluate whether Amazon can run grocery stores well. I

There is such an air of entitlement with open source these days. I guess more and more developers don't remember when all the coolest shit WASN'T free. You had to pay for compilers, editors, manuals, etc. If someone writes a piece

Several years later, and even with the code, researchers are not able to summarize a complete list of what stuxnet definitely does. What I see here is that the word "sophistication" is misunderstood by a lot of people. Stuxnet too
