Hi, Brave engineer here, Are you by any chance using a VPN while using Brave Search? (ProtonVPN?) Thanks for your help, we're working on ways to reduce the number of captchas shown to VPN users and your feedback is very useful.

Nit. I believe you can use numpy and at least some other libraries relying on native extensions but performance might vary: https://doc.pypy.org/en/latest/faq.html#should-i-install-num...

The operating system level does not have as much information as the browser so it would be much less effective. You could do domain-level blocking (mostly) but miss lots of granularity on URLs, types of requests, contexts of request (what&#

It is very expensive to train these base models so a smaller size is more practical if you aren’t a big company with hundreds of powerful GPUs at hand. Table 15 from LLaMA paper[1] has some insightful figures: it took 135,168 GPU hours to t

Brave has its own Rust implementation of an adblocker embedded in the browser: https://github.com/brave/adblock-rust ; so it does not embed uBlock Origin (but the filters are mostly compatible) Disclaimer: I work at Bra

To add to that, I believe the title of this submission is a reference ("Open-Lamam: A “real” open-source project to train LLM not just checkpoints") to this project you link, since they did not (to my knowledge), release the code

One datapoint: I use Slack exclusively in the browser (both Firefox and Brave), and it works well. As far as I remember on Firefox there was some limitation on video calls but that was arbitrary (user-agent check or something like that).

Are you by any chance referring to Goggles (with two 'g's) which is indeed a beta feature, but has nothing to do with Google? https://search.brave.com/goggles/discover (Disclaimer: I work at Brave)

Note that the lack of adblocker in nativefier has nothing to do with the lack of libraires to do the blocking but rather technical challenges with preload scripts, etc. (Not impossible but someone needs to implement it). See here for releva

Thank you, very interesting ideas. I like the option to boost based on a variable depending on the page itself. How would we define “adcount”, number of network requests blocked by some adblocker when loading the page?

Thanks for the great feedback! As you mentioned, before being able to apply multiple Goggles at once[1], we would need to define precedence rules. It's technically possible, but then we would also need to figure out some UX around it,

Nice project, Goggles is also open-source, the main difference of the approach is that Goggles collaborates with Brave Search index while your approach uses any search index as source of URLs. That difference is fundamental, a client can us
