It's only a small selection of inputs. I have a solve group that calls it "Advent of Input Roulette" because (back when there was a global leaderboard) you can definitely get a better expected score by just assuming your inpu

Nobody wants 10 months in a year. What we want is 13 28-day months a year plus one or two intercalary days. But organized religion gets in the way.

I saw the diagram in the original blogpost, laughed, but after a bit of sketching it out I think we're both wrong. R/2R ladders are useful in DACs (and are really cool there) but don't look like they're used in digipot a

"All" isn't right. You can only encode decision problems in NP into a SAT instance of polynomially-balanced size. Sure, that's a lot of things, but there are things provably not in this set.

Is that actually the story of Uber? They didn't start with "let a random person drive you around"; they did licensed-limousine-by-app (which is the incremental "boring" improvement this post hates) until Lyft came a

to be fair, slack not delivering messages is a very typical failure mode in my experience. slack isn't fit for purpose. the missing messages will eventually show up but long after the negative impact has been realized.

I left a firm that was refusing to fix compensation issues because "attrition is near zero." The only thing I said in my exit interview was that I was leaving specifically because of compensation and I didn't want to comment

other than the single-winner/multiple-winner focus problem: sure the empirics may be a bit old but there's also the theory? We don't see any reason why we'd magically get better third party support in simulations as well

Why? IRV will poison the well against actually usable voting schemes. It practically already has.

that's less of a variant of IRV than it is a Condorcet method with a weird cycle-breaking rule. you still lose monotonicity with your weird rule so idk why you'd argue for this over any of the other Condorcet methods... though: th

It doesn't matter. Hare/Instant Runoff voting (deceivingly marketed as "ranked-choice voting" in the US) neither empirically [0] nor theoretically [1] improves the viability of third parties. Honestly IRV is worse than p
